immiketoo Report post Posted October 30, 2012 I was recently asked to carve the cover of a wallet from a piece of 1.5 oz calf skin. I was a nerve wracking experience for me since I only had one piece of leather to use. I practiced three times on 5-6 oz veg tan to ensure I had the right stuff for the design and then I went for it. I was afraid I'd cut through the calf skin, but it proved to be very resilient. Anyway, today I was also told I could dye it however I liked, and this is the end result. Let me know what you think? bluesman1951 Report post Posted October 30, 2012 I came to see this and I did . Not being a carver I am not qualified to say a single word with this . Looks cool colour is good I would not mind it on one of my bags . Beyond that all I can say is thanks for showing it I am grateful you took the time to share . Horrrk Report post Posted October 31, 2012 (edited) That looks great Mike.. Considering that its only in 1.5oz leather, I think you've managed to get some real good depth and detail to your carving and tooling.!! Nice work.. DoubleC Report post Posted October 31, 2012 Wow Mike, I can imagine how nerve wracking it was on something that thin. You did an excellent job. I wish I could control my knife that well on a thicker piece. Absolutely beautiful. Cheryl

Regards Phil Thanks Phil, I was surprised as well about the illusion of depth with that thin leather. Wow Mike, I can imagine how nerve wracking it was on something that thin. Cheryl Cheryl, I practiced three times on thick leather, so technically, it's not my "first", its my third! To be honest, the control on this was actually easier than thick leather since the thin leather doesn't grab the blade. There's way less friction, therefore the turns were easier.. clintsdivco Report post Posted November 1, 2012 That turned out very nice, especially for that thin of leather. It shows great depth. Clint
