Leela Valley Leather Report post Posted December 16, 2012 (edited) Or more specifically would the image rendered on the leather be of sufficient detail to be read by a QR code reading app? My concerns are that the image be sharp enough to be readable and that the contrast be high enough to be recognised. The code below is the link to my profile here. Edit: if this were doable then the QR Code could be both your mark and your contact details in one. TwinOaks Report post Posted December 16, 2012 Funny you should bring this up....i just started discussing this with LWLEATHERS. Stay tuned, we'll find out. Since Calvin is a stamp maker, he's going to run some prototypes and see what works best.
immiketoo Report post Posted December 17, 2012 I expect it will depend less on the sharpness and more on the amount of burnish you get. Or more specifically, the contrast between the black and white parts.
Matt S Report post Posted December 17, 2012 Perhaps contrast could be increased with the use of antique dye?
TwinOaks Report post Posted December 17, 2012 It's not too much an issue of contrast, as that's easily addressed..whether through the burnish of the stamping, or antique/dye. It's a question of fine enough detail. I think it should be quite possible...PROVIDED the leather is of sufficient quality. My maker's mark has some small detail, yet is clearly legible. What Calvin will be testing is the min/max size of the stamp, and the complexity (amount of info for the code). He'll also probably be testing the idea as a branding iron....I trust that we'll be hearing something in a few days or so, as I was just discussing this with him a day before this thread. And since he is helping to support the site, I think it would be great if we can in turn help support his business. Stay tuned...
EmbossingDieCompany Report post Posted December 17, 2012 I've made two QR code stamps for customers and they have both told me it works. Getting the detail with the stamp is absolutely no problem, the success is all in the way the leather is finished (it must be black).
Russ Report post Posted December 17, 2012 (edited) So is the raised portion of the leather the black or the white in a printed stamp? I've made two QR code stamps for customers and they have both told me it works. Getting the detail with the stamp is absolutely no problem, the success is all in the way the leather is finished (it must be black). EmbossingDieCompany Report post Posted December 17, 2012 It can be done either way.....it depends on what look you want.......and again, on how you plan to finish the leather.
