Members LeatherWerks Posted January 29, 2013 Members Report Posted January 29, 2013 (edited) I looked around the site and didn't see anything written on the procedures to make round dog collars. Do anyone have any information about the procedure? If so, I'd appreciate it. Steve Edited January 29, 2013 by LeatherWerks Quote
Members Cyberthrasher Posted January 29, 2013 Members Report Posted January 29, 2013 I don't have any experience, but I would start by looking at the stuff on making handles since it looks to be pretty much the same technique. Quote
Members Dwight Posted January 29, 2013 Members Report Posted January 29, 2013 Of course you would forgive me if I said all you had to do was make a square one and sand off the corners, . . . but I won't say that. I've never gotten an order for one of those, . . . but if I did, . . . I would treat it the same way I treat handles like that, . . . I simply contact cement a piece of rope in the pre-rolled leather, . . . and I use a shoelace stitch to sew it all together. The thing that makes it fairly easy, . . . I remove the thread from my Boss, . . . use it to punch and space the holes for the stitching, . . . works every time. Honestly, if I had to awl-n-stitch them, . . . uhhh, . . . probably wouldn't happen. May God bless, Dwight Quote
Members billymac814 Posted January 30, 2013 Members Report Posted January 30, 2013 Like the others have said you would make them similar to handles and use a rounder to pull them through. I believe the "art of making cases" volume 2 describes the procedure. Quote

Members LeatherWerks Posted January 31, 2013 Author Members Report Posted January 31, 2013 Thanks to everyone who replied. While the concept of making the collar it clear now, the sewing part has me a bit baffled. I see these collars in pet stores all the time at prices that would suggest there was little hand work involved. Of course, the product source is a country in the far east, maybe there are thousands of cheap workers hand-sewing these collars. Steve Quote
