cj77426 Report post Posted February 13, 2013 Hello, I've read numerous articles on here and can not quite understand still what you guys mean. I know you all have years of experience to my months, but I need help finding the sewing machine that will fit me. I have a pfaff that handles my small jobs quite well ( 1-5oz leather) but I am looking for a machine that will handle the heavier leather. I have been making belts, chaps, in the area for a couple years, along with saddle and tack repair. However my hands can not take much more hand stitching and I've decided to expand business. With this comes my need for a good sewing machine that will handle the different tasks at hand. Also in the future, I will start making saddles and tack as I have teamed up with a guy who makes custom buckles etc. and just to throw it out there, I have been eyeing a cowboy machine CB4500. Is this possibly the machine I need? As far as the other brands, I'm completely clueless!! Especially when it come to walking foot, this bed or that bed etc. any help would be greatly appreciated. Ferg Report post Posted February 13, 2013 From what you are saying you definitely need a machine with the capabilities of the Cowboy 4500 or one of the other makes that are clones of an original. I am sure Art, Wiz, Ron and others will chime in on this. ferg

Art Report post Posted February 14, 2013 The Cobra Class 4 is also a good choice. Steve also buys Singer Patchers and refurbs them. Ron also has 441 clone machines but I don't know the numbers. Art

Wizcrafts Report post Posted February 15, 2013 (edited) The "patchers" are able to sew into places that no other machine will fit into. They sew in any direction, including up the arm. You can sew patches onto vests, or onto the arms of jackets. You can resew shoes and boots and even sew zippers into pockets with a patcher. As for the 441 machine, all of the dealers on this forum sell very good machines of equal caliber. You will get a good machine and the best after-sale service, at a reasonable price that was unheard of when I started sewing leather.
