Members ReneeCanady Posted April 21, 2013 Members Report Posted April 21, 2013 I have seen this in progress via Facebook and loved watching it in the making. I think it came out very pretty! I am sure the baby will also love it when she is older. Well done! Quote
Members DoubleC Posted April 21, 2013 Members Report Posted April 21, 2013 I too have watched this on FB. I think it's absolutely stunning. All the work you've put into it really shows. Cheryl Quote

Members David8386 Posted April 21, 2013 Members Report Posted April 21, 2013 Nice job, especially the detail on the face. David Quote
Members Cogs Posted April 22, 2013 Members Report Posted April 22, 2013 grammyd, Congradulations! A wonderful work of art! I'd like to see the side-by-side pics showing the real thing and the portrait. Bill Quote
Members DJole Posted April 22, 2013 Members Report Posted April 22, 2013 Very nice on the face! I'm a little leery of tackling realistic portraits, myself, so I salute your bravery! There is one thing that you might want to take a look at--the beveling between the arm and chest. It seems too abrupt to me; I think it would be better to widen out that line, to add shape to the chest. Quote
Members eagle6977 Posted April 23, 2013 Members Report Posted April 23, 2013 That is very nice, good detailing. I have done few portraits on the scroll saw. So now I will have to one in leather. Quote
Members grammyd Posted April 23, 2013 Author Members Report Posted April 23, 2013 (edited) Here is the side by side. Big differences and I want to improve so any suggestions are very welcome. I was going to add the blanket but not sure how to maintain the softness of it. What do you think? Add or not? Edited April 23, 2013 by grammyd Quote
Members Cogs Posted April 24, 2013 Members Report Posted April 24, 2013 grammyd, You nailed it! Great likeness! Thanks for showing the side by side. I vote no on the blanket. I think it would add an obscure object in the foreground that may distract (or upstage) the primary subject. The carving as it stands features the child as main focus and is obviously in front of anything else. Therefore, I am not distracted by anything but that cute little baby. Very nice work, indeed.
