Looks great, Deborah!

I recently bought a digital copy of Al Stohlman's Art of make leather cases, volume 1. The first 20-30 pages discuss techniques about attaching straps to items, O and D ring methods, and a lot of information that could be translated into variety for cuffs and collars like this. I highly recommend checking it out.

Hi Deborah definitely like the set I am thinking of making a simular set for my girlfriend any complaints of the rivets chafing after prolonged wear? Any tricks or tips for a new leather worker

Respectfully,

Scott

I use the caped rivets, which are totally smooth. I've worn them myself and had no chaffing at all. The rivets are nickel plated steel. The only possible problem I could think of would be if someone were allergic or sensitive to nickel. If you run into a problem like that, sew the suede lining in after riveting to keep the rivets away from making contact with bare skin.

Hi just signed up here and very interested in trying my hand at leathercraft and this post is exactly what I would like to attempt to create! I apologize for going off topic, but your collar and cuff set is really inspiring and I am compiling a list of tools and doing research on the process so I can make a collar and cuff set myself! I admire your work and it would be a huge favor if you or anyone else could help me compile the tools I need for the job?

Here is my list so far, still doing research on the sewing and stitch stuff. Can you guys help me with some suggestions? (def need tools for stitching, but haven't gone that far in the research yet)

Strap cutter
Mallet
Tack hammer
Leather scissors
Skiver
Knife
Hole punch
Scratch awl
Rivet setter
Keep up the good work and thanks in advance!

Those are beautiful! How did you get the colors? Did you dye them yourself and what dye and finish do you use? Husband/Master and I are learning to make collars, etc. and would love some pointers.

These cuff bases were made from 3 layers of garment weight leather. The straps were made of 2 layers of garment weight leathers glued and sewn back to back.

The leather of this type and colors can be purchased from The Hide House. https://hidehouse.com/

Thanks for the fast reply :)

It's funny...I was just looking at hidehouse.com lol. I have been wanting some really fun colors, but dyes won't do that it seems and I have heard that paint will crack and flake. Maybe we will buy from them in the future.

They look great! I'm hoping to do something similar, though I'm new to leatherwork so just trying to look for bits and pieces at the moment.

In another thread, I was on the lookout for some nickel plates to mount the d rings rather than use pieces of leather. Having said that, I might have to try leather bits. The ones I have in the photos seem difficult to find or buy separately, but commonly seen and used on ones sold on the retail market.

If anyone has seen any, do let me know!

HI, yes have looked around locally and online. Usually they don't go this small or have two holes, not four or they are rough galvanised metal and not nickel.

A manufacturer in China has told me they make them. Depending on how that goes, may just use leather squares as you have done.
