intothebush Report post Posted June 7, 2013 I was wanting to make a medieval looking leather journal but Im not sure on how to bind it together. Would anyone happen to know a good source for the paper that looks like its all roughed up around the edges?. Any info would be great, journal patterns, binding info. Thanks. Treed Report post Posted June 7, 2013 Try Tandy's video subscription service, they had one on there on how to bind a journal and cover it with leather. They showed how to rough up the edges and to glue.

particle Report post Posted June 7, 2013 There's a gal on YouTube that has a great collection of videos revolving around making journals. Her username is SeaLemonDIY. http://www.youtube.com/user/SeaLemonDIY http://www.youtube.com/user/SeaLemonDIY/videos For the torn-edge paper, you basically have to start out with really large sheets, then tear the paper to the size you'll need to make your "signatures". Here's another page that you might find useful. http://tmcphoto-peanutbutterpie.blogspot.com/2011/01/how-to-make-signature-for-hand-bound.html These don't really show you how to attach the leather cover like you've shown, but it should help you with the inserts. ReneeCanady Report post Posted June 7, 2013 This guy has a very detailed tutorial. I followed this one last year and it worked really well for me. You can add your own touches to it for the look you want. You will have to go to youtube to get the rest of the videos.

blue duck Report post Posted June 7, 2013 I don't know if it is what you are after exactly, but you might try dickblick.com they are an art company mostly and have hundreds of types of paper. Some look like what you want, but like I said hundreds, so I didn't leave a specific link.
shtoink Report post Posted June 8, 2013 The original image you posted looks sort of like a modified form of the "coptic stitch" method of book binding. It appears that the leather thong comes through the holes that sew together the signatures to attach the leather binding. I could be completely wrong, but I know that there are a few variations on it.
