Hi Steve....could I be so bold in asking what you would estimate to ship this machine to Australia [well um ..New Zealand]??

I have a lead here, just in today, in part container space shipping into NZ [one on one deal- not through a broker -so may cut some cost].

But I'm really uncertain about crating and long haul road freight. We sort of guestimated ~NZD$2000-2500 ? depending on how close it was to the main export wharves.

cheers

I second all the endorsement of needle and awl machines and the reality of the market and the 441 clones. I have had a UL, bought new, for 40 years now and did have a long learing curve but with that behind me I'm tickled as a hog in slop. NOTE I had another 'curve' a few years ago with thread. When new I had soon abandoned waxed linen thread for the convenience and even tighter stitch possibilities with synthetic thread and was pleased for 20+ years then mayhem and much difficulty. I started a light lubrication of upper with silicone thread lubricant and problem solved. Now I dont have a pile of spools with a few yards used to put on bobbins. Top and bottom useage is about equal and "birds nests" are just vague memories. But if I were just starting I'm sure that $2695 complete would sound better than much more just to get started.

The first priority is to find a machine that is cheap overseas, ie cheap enough to be worth shipping, second ... the owner must be prepared to crate it in special timber that customs will accept and he must sign the declaration, after that your shipper needs to collect it and ship it to you. I find that I need to add $1600 Austalian to anything I buy in the States, thats 800 to collect and ship and another 800 to clear customs, wharf charges and me driving to get it from the port. Everything is crazy dear here, a towbar for my VW Crafter here is $600 on ebay.... in England you can get one for $180.... that's dollars not pounds.. So everything works pretty much like that.

Just to add to that Gordon, its the home port charges that can catch you unawares, if something is small and can be posted there is no problem. Ideally you need to accumulate a number of items and ship them at once, thereby reducing the costs per item. Sadly last time I did this in the States with a guy called Bill Neel, 501 Maple, Chetopa, Kansas, 67336 he disappeared with my shipment of machines, wont answer emails or the phone.

Again in no way are we trying to discredit this machines value, quality, or durability. It is well known that this is the best needle and awl machine ever made and still being produced. As said its is going to be hard because they do not hold re-sale value I don't know why if its the best machine out there. Think about it this way if you listed your machine at 4k it would take a while to sell but it will eventually sell if you list it for 3.5k I think you'll get it sold quick, this would be more like a distress sell, right now we have another Campbell for a little more than 3.5k and it is still sitting idle a lot of inquiries but no sale. This is the machine you'd be competing against and if I was to buy one I'd buy yours being that it is rebuilt by Campbell already not too long ago. In the other hand there has been numerous of sales on here for used 441 clones and they are selling for around 2k and 2.2k some not even being the premium package with all the attachments and tables and the seller only paid 2695 for them they are only loosing a couple hundred dollars while you have a potential to loose thousands. For some reason I don't find it fair when this machine is the cream of the crop. I thought about this all night because I read my post and maybe it sounded like I was being cheap, I'm sorry if there is anyone that appreciates these machines it's me. You should not have to take that big of a hit the last price you listed is fair for both you and the buyer. Once you have a buyer you guys can negotiate a little further. Best of luck and I hope your machine sells if you want I can spread the word around for 4200 if its ok with you let me know? The thing is clones are hot right now it's they are hot in the market, and since the demand is high resale price is good as well. Think of it this way not everyone has a Rolls Royce but everyone has a Chevy Impala you my friend have the real deal. God Bless!

Ralph

PS re-post your machine with good pictures, close ups of everything included and list it for 4200 be patient it'll take a little while but this is as close you can get to a new one this ones practically new.

Steve,

You guys go trough a lot to have these machines shipped to you. Then you have people stealing from you not good. I know nothing about shipping overseas but how does it work and why can't a machine come back to the USA or is it just too much to ship. Would a smaller item like a Junker & Ruh be able to ship from Australia to the USA and what do you think it will cost if it can be done?

In my previous post I suggested for you to repost the machine for 4200 I was. Wrong when I seen your last post I seen 4800 I think that's a good price to start just keep that price and list it on other places as well like Leatherpros and Proleptic.

Well, I appreciate all of your feedback. I am not crazy about selling my stitcher but had decided to look into the market to see what it was worth and would still entertain offers. I appreciate the feedback and if anyone is interested, I would like to know...Thanks,Mike
