Going to get a air compressor from Harbor freight to use to mold holsters. I have the plastic bag and was wondering would you get the two stage or the single stage for this application.

It really doesn't make any difference with the slight advantage of the two stage being able to establish a vacuum seven or eight seconds sooner.

I hope you don't get a compressor, . . . but rather a vacuum pump.

I bought their cheaper one (I'm kinda like that, y'know) and have been seriously happy with it. It's done all I have asked of it so far, . . . and I think it was $99 when I bought it a couple years back.

Just be sure to go to a local auto parts store and get a quart of compressor oil (or an AC/Refrig supply store). A quart will last a long time, . . . but if you run her dry, . . . you may have to buy her sister to get back in business, . . . and it only takes once.

May God bless,

Dwight

If you can breathe, . . . thank God.

If you can read, . . . thank a teacher.

If you are reading this in English, . . . thank a veteran.

I was going to reply also, but Dwight covered everything I would have said. I got my vacuum pump oil at NAPA. Unlike many things I've bought at Harbor Freight, the $99 vacuum pump seems to work well. Don't forget the HF 20% discount coupon.

This is new to me. I am using a vacuum for leftovers and it works kinda decent. I guess the Vpump works a lot better.

If I buy the Vpump, what else do I need besides oil. Hoses. Connectors. Where do you get the bags?

I don't know how to post a link, but if you search for the thread "vacuum molding" from Sept. 2012 it contains a lot of very good information. Particle ,from this site, posted a description of his vacuum system and where he got the components. His website, "Adams Leatherworks" also has a very good tutorial. I based my system off of his and am very happy with the results.

I found Dwight's post on rigging the Vpump. Interesting setup. Seems to be a popular item here.

I used the food sealer machine to do this. I didn't do any more forming after I pulled it from the bag and let it dry. I need to check on the Vpump some more.

Anybody know which draws more vacuum? The single stage one(#98076) states 75 micron/ 10 Pascal, 2.5 cfm.The two stage one (#66466) states 25 mmicron/3 Pascal, 3 cfm. I would assume the single stage is more powerful? Just a tad slower on the cfm rating?
