Leather Conditioner For Desert Climate

Recommended Posts

A client who purchased a leather portfolio is moving to a desert climate and asked me about conditioner for the leather. When I made it, I used Bee Natural #1 Saddle oil and finished with Wyosheen after antiquing. It's heavily carved, so I wouldn't want to recommend a paste, probably. What do you all suggest?

I live in the desert now(Tucson, AZ), and I have found that leather holds up much better here than it did when I lived in West Virginia. I think it has to do with steady climate instead of all the humidity and temp swings. I have used a variety of commonly available leather conditioners/oils since moving down here, and they have all worked just fine.

I know what you mean about the paste stuff. I have to take a tooth brush to carved leather if I use a colored or pasty product.

Olive oil, pure neatsfoot oil, RM Williams leather conditioner, Fiebings aussie dressing, Bick 4, Saddlers one step. The list goes on and on.

I build electric guitars. I am not a very good player, but I do pick around on banjo and guitar.
