glockanator Report post Posted February 1, 2014 I had a gentleman order a avenger holster for a kimber. A couple weeks later he told me his gun would not fit in the holster. I asked him what Kimberly he was trying to put in the holster his reply was It's a Colt Commander. I told him I would make him a new holster for his commander. Well I am about 85% done with the holster and I run into at a gun and says he has a Gold Cup not a commander. Will a Gold Cup fit in a commander holster? I don't want to make a third holster for this guy.
supercub Report post Posted February 1, 2014 There are a lot of Colt 1911 variants. The commander series is usually 3/4" shorter barrel than the standard 1911. The Gold Cups (that I'm familiar with) are the same barrel length as the standard 5" 1911. The Gold Cup will stick out the end of a holster built for a commander. camano ridge Report post Posted February 1, 2014 (edited) If it is a colt Gold Cup Commander it will fit. The Colt Gold Cup Commander is the same size as a Commander 4.25 Barrel lenth. The Other Gold Cups 1911, Gold Cup Series 70 Etc. are 5". Edited February 1, 2014 by camano ridge

Thats what I get for living in the pre series 80 world.
marine mp Report post Posted February 1, 2014 Glockinator....My .002¢ would be to have the gentleman send back the holster, return his $$$ and no hard feelings. 3rd time is a charm. He perhaps is looking for free holsters and should have been more specific when ordering. Again..jmho. Semper-fi. Mike
George B Report post Posted February 2, 2014 I had similar problems with some customers some time back. Always phone orders or internet orders. Locals will bring the weapon in so I can get all the particulars and in the case of an Avenger if I don't have a close enough handgun I will require the actual weapon. I used my Word program to print up a work order sheet that has all the boxes to fill in on all the particulars of each handgun as well as all the info on the holster ordered. If they change the weapon after I start cutting they are going to receive the "original" holster they ordered. I have not had a single problem once I started this practice and it eliminated all the mis-communication. One of the things I have them do is read me the model number directly off the weapon, some even catch themselves in mistakes on weapon make and model. Good luck. glockanator Report post Posted February 2, 2014 I am just going to finish the original holster. If he doesn't like it then he can sell it and pay for another holster.
chiefjason Report post Posted February 3, 2014 Funny story. I had a guy message me asking if my holster would fit his Kimber. I messaged him back and told him that as long as his gun was a standard 1911 frame it would work. I should probably track down the exact odd framed 1911's out there, Sig for sure, seems like a kimber or two are 1911 style, and some of the micro 1911 style pistols are non standard. Anyway, I try to put the expectation back on the customer to know what their gun is and make the decision. The guy messaged me back and told me that if I did not know enough about my product to answer his question then he would go somewhere else. I got a bit peeved, then decided I probably did not want a customer like that anyway. I know my product will fit a standard 1911 frame, apparently he did not know if his frame was standard or not. And the guy that ordered one and then complained that the fit was sloppy. Sent it back, fit just fine. Apparently they were carrying one of the micro 1911 styled guns. Oh, the joys....... grumpyold Report post Posted February 3, 2014 The verity of 1911's and clones have gone through the roof. Add in the fact of a large number of different sight configurations, and believing that a pattern for a 1911A1 Colt will fit other models will cause you nothing but grieve. Asking for a picture of the pistol and the model they want the holster for, will save you these type of problems.
