I have been pondering this for a while. I am guessing this is kind of like having a faraday cage in your pocket.

The question is how thick does the metal need to be. Will mylar work? How about using an inside liner of one of the metallic finished leathers? Would that be thick enough to do the job?

Anybody know the answers?

It might be time to consider lining wallets with foil to prevent credit card fraud.

I agree Tree Reaper! It's getting out of hand. Adding foil could be the answer.

I live in the area that Bob Segall reports his investigations. He has uncovered lots of jaw dropping info in the state of Indiana. I'm always intrigued his reporting.

You can buy aluminum tape with an adhesive back that would easily stick to the inside of a wallet back.

It's used for taping duct joints.

I was reading up on it and it appears the RFID chip signal is omnidirectional.

So........we are looking at a wallet with a metalic liner and perhaps a card pocket also lined completely with a metal lined flap, to seal the open end of the pocket, to completely shield the cards?

Some kind of foil sleeve for the cards with a foil flap that closes over the open end, I'm guessing.

Difficult to prove without an RF tester.

I'm certain a cardholder with a thin foil lining between a liner and the leather would meet your needs. I'm also certain it'd sell to the prep paranoid crowd! But, sadly, the "chip" system that Europe is using and some folks are wanting us to use is quite a bit more secure, rather than less so.. Our cards work on a "signature" basis, which means you can use it fraudulently more easily. The "chip" system requires a PIN, like your debit card, and as such would be impossible to use without the corresponding PIN number you keep secure up in your noggin. Someone could get your RF info, but it'd be as useful to the crook as two left feet.

Only reason we still use the signature system is that big retailers don't want to spend the $$& on all those new credit card readers they'd have to buy.
