A Couple Interesting Ones- S&w 500 Cross Draw And Scoped Ruger Mk Iii

Have not posted pics in a while. These are two of the more interesting one's lately. Took the most work too. But doing different things is a nice challenge from knocking out mostly cookie cutter pancake holsters. And shooting this bad boy is part of the deal!

Here is the Beast, S&W 500. He wanted a cross draw holster, retention strap, and ammo loops if I could manage them. I managed to get a full reload on board. I putzed up the first one trying to do a thumb break on it. Did not work well with the cylinder and the reinforced back. Second had a pull the dot snap on the front and worked out much better.

Decided to run a full length reinforcement on the back integrated into the belt tunnel. This thing weighs 4.5 lbs UNLOADED!!! It's going to need it. The rivets are anchoring the strap.

And yes, you can actually wear it. Might need suspenders, but it fits. I can sit down with it on, at least on my kitchen chairs. He mainly wants to be able to ride his 4 wheeler with it if he goes hog hunting. At least that's his story. lol

And the scoped Ruger. This one has metal strip reinforcements running under the leather reinforcement. One running vertically, and one around the mouth on the bottom.

Some pretty cool custom work there! I can't imagine the design time that went into those. Actually, I guess I can, I just don't want to. I think it's really cool that you did a wrap around with a flat back. The image of one has been floating around in my head the last few weeks. It dawned on me that I'd never seen one before (at least that I could recall,) and sure enough, here one is. Neat. BTW, you need not have struggled trying to find a way for him to carry extra rounds for that .500. He won't have to fire a shot. He just has to show it to the hog, and it'll die of a massive coronary!

Custom work like that is what keeps us going! It is always fun to take the ideas people come up with and turn them into workable holsters. Very nice work.

Paul, I have to say I seriously question firing one shot through that gun. Much less 5 and having to reload. BTW, for those that have not seen one in person, the bullet is a half inch across and the round is 2" long. Big boomstick!

Chief, excellent work....I can see it's been well thought out, and the construction is very well done.

Question though.....I've made a couple of pancakes for the .500 and have wondered how long a stretch you can carry such a piece on your pant belt. I recommended a shoulder strap or baldric to help support the weight, but the customers have been adamant about wearing it on their belt.

Again, great looking work.

After wearing it around a bit, I'll probably recommend suspenders. He has a sturdy belt from me already that will help. But that's still a lot of weight to tote around. In reality, I don't see it getting a lot of use. But he wanted it, he gets it.

I bet I went through about 8-10 cardboard patterns. I'd rather waste paper than leather. And I would have hit it out of the park with the first shot if I would have trusted my gut and went with the front snap.

Great looking holsters. The extra support for the 500 will be a blessing for the guy who has to carry it. Great design by the way also. I had a raging bull in .44 and finally made a chest rig for it because it was so heavy. Too much gun for a shoulder rig since it had an 8 3/8" barrel. I finally got tired of it and traded it off after I made the chest rig. The bigger the gun the louder the boom and the more weight you have to carry. I have enough around the middle to carry anymore.
