LTC Report post Posted April 23, 2014 (edited) so i opted to not have to wait 4 to 8 weeks for a Dremel burnisher from leatherburnishers.com and instead bought one from Pro Edge Burnishers...placed to order Friday, they shipped it Monday, and I received it today. it's beautiful, btw...but even better - IT WORKS GREAT!!!!! can't believe how much needless toil i'd been putting in just to get a mediocre edge before.....just a few seconds with this on my Foredom and wonderful edges.....even just with water. i'm looking forward to finishing my projects now and am looking around for scraps to practice burnishing on. there is a sweet spot on what speed to use. on my Foredom, about mid range on my foot pedal works really well. JLSleather Report post Posted April 26, 2014 I just now ordered one of these myself. The "old version" is pretty worn down, and I've been talking about making something new for a LONG time. Maybe just time to admit that I'm never going to get around to that, and buy one! I saw your post, and went and clicked. So, on your next order, tell them they owe you a referral fee

BDAZ Report post Posted May 20, 2014 I ordered mine last Friday Thursday and received it today, Monday. Beautifully made and looks and smells great! I had a question for Richard Loy about recommended rotation speed and he answered my e-mail in minutes. Great product, great service and great price! Cya! JLSleather Report post Posted May 20, 2014 So, what was the speed recommended?
BDAZ Report post Posted May 20, 2014 1400 RPM. There's also a video on the web site which shows burnishing on a drill press at 1350 if I remember right Excellent web site as well. Cya!Bob
Spinner Report post Posted May 20, 2014 You'll get a better edge using something with natural enzymes and a mid range speed. Not sure what it is rpmwise, will have to check, but setting 5-6 on a Dremel 3000/4000 is the sweet spot and around 1100 on most drill presses. You want a slightly lower speed on the drill press due to the larger diameter as the surface speed increases with the diameter on spinning objects. Saliva is best but spitting on client projects is usually frowned upon, even for seriously smooth edges, Glycerine soap works well but I have found that Wyo-Slick from Sheridan Leather Outfitters is awesome stuff and a small bottle lasts forever. Just dip your finger in, rub a small amount on the edges and let it sit for a few seconds then burnish. I usually apply it to the whole piece all at once, by the time I get around, the first area is ready to run the burnisher over. http://www.sheridanleather.com/Quik_Slik_p/quik-slik.htm
