sharkeyfinn Report post Posted April 27, 2014 hi everyone, is it possible to use something like this and convert it to a burnisher? and could i also use it for buffing with a polishing wheel?
papaw Report post Posted April 27, 2014 The answer is yes to both questions. I used my belshew sharpern to burnish and polish my tools with buffing wheel. I even used it as a polisher to remove scratchs from the diamond punch that looked like someone used on steel, looks new now and slides in and out of leather very easy. My wheels do turn 3650 rpm. sharkeyfinn Report post Posted April 27, 2014 thanks papaw, is there any particular polishing wheel to use or will any old metal polisher do?
TomG Report post Posted April 27, 2014 Harbor Freight Tools sells a buffer than you can put certain burnishers on. I have one of the machines and use it all the time for buffing, knocking off excess black dye, etc., but haven't added the burnisher to the end. I use a Foredom handpiece to hold my burnisher. Others have shown pics here of the ones with the burnisher attached. For some reason, I'm not seeing an Attachment button to post a picture. Here's a linkhttp://www.harborfreight.com/8-inch-buffer-40668.html
camano ridge Report post Posted April 27, 2014 Here is a thread that shows one method of making a grinder a burnisher. You can also remove the grinding wheel and maunt a Drill chuck to the grinders shaft. Then chuck in a burnisher.

Red Cent Report post Posted April 27, 2014 I took an old grinder, removed all the "stuff" and then threaded on two keyless chucks.

dirtclod Report post Posted April 28, 2014 I've used a grinder with buffing wheels with red, green white and black buffing compund for my knives for years and it's never hurt one yet. I bet you 99% of knifes made has been on a buffing wheel sometime during the time it was made
camano ridge Report post Posted April 28, 2014 I always use a buffing wheel for polishing on my finished knives, both blades and handles. There is a safety factor and you have to be very alert when buffing a knife. If given the oportunity the buffer will grab your knife and throw it at you.
