Members Stephenpuhakish Posted June 10, 2014 Members Report Posted June 10, 2014 Here's one I learned the hard way, a good sharp awl will easily go through the leather and into your fingertip if you've done the foolish thing of putting your finger behind the work, likely without you feeling it. Also, for some reason most customers don't want bloodstains on their brand new item... go figure Quote
Members Glendon Posted June 10, 2014 Members Report Posted June 10, 2014 It is absolutely amazing how fast one quick shortcut can turn into a bloodbath. Last Christmas I was making parts for presents. At one point I decided to flip my knife around and switch hands rather then take the time to rearrange the part I was cutting. As I'm sure you can guess, it didn't end well. Didn't need stitches thankfully, but it was a close thing. Quote

At least I was. Quote http://www.sevenhillsleather.com/

LNLeather Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 Reading this all...... makes me cringe and reminds me of the rule to always cut away from any body parts... mistakes can just draw blood up to a ride to the emergency room. New blade in the utility knife + cutting in the wrong direction + being in a hurry = stitches. Long story made short... * I'm pretty sure everyone reading this topic is remembering the time they learned this Quote ~Cheryl There are many things in life that will catch your eye, but only a few will catch your heart... pursue those...

Then you figure out that the best way to get things done quickly is to take your time. Quote
Members billybopp Posted June 16, 2014 Members Report Posted June 16, 2014 You guys all had me in stitches reading this! Ok. Maybe that's a bad choice of words, but hey ... And no, bloodstains on leather or thread is NOT an added feature. It all goes to show that Murphy is alive and well in everybody's workshop. Bill Quote
