LoriF Report post Posted June 15, 2014 I have the snap setter tool set from Tandy, but I have an iron cross snap and don't want to mar or dent/bend the decorative cap. Is there anything special to setting these snaps as opposed to regular 4 part snaps? An what are these types of snaps called? I've searched for answers but maybe not using the right words
Itch Report post Posted June 15, 2014 (edited) I would put a piece of soft leather or suede on the face of the snap..and you are probably looking at line 24 snaps with an embossed top piece. Edited June 15, 2014 by Itch
LoriF Report post Posted June 15, 2014 That's exactly what I needed to know, thank you! So they are called "embossed" ? I had a feeling I was not getting the search word right
Jimbob Report post Posted June 15, 2014 Make yourself a little small very firm sandbag ( shotbag) and lay the decoraticve snap face down on it.....works like a charm !!!
LoriF Report post Posted June 16, 2014 Great idea, thanks
chiefjason Report post Posted June 16, 2014 They also sell small poundo boards for setting the rivets with crystals in them. Probably work for you too.
LoriF Report post Posted June 16, 2014 Do you happen to know who has the best price on poundo boards, or are they known by another name or type of material to try and source locally (although I'm in Maine and pretty much nothing is sourced locally except seafood They seem kind of expensive, at least on Tandy's site. billybopp Report post Posted June 17, 2014 I've set a dozen or so decorative snaps mostly using a couple of layers of leather beneath the face. The only one I messed up was the first one ... Without the leather, hitting it too hard and a bit off center. That being said, poundo boards are a nice thing to have for a lot of other uses as well and you can't go wrong getting one! Take a look at Springfieldleather.com. They sell for about the same or less than Tandy with an elite membership and have a small one for crystal rivets for about $10. chiefjason Report post Posted June 17, 2014 Here is the small poundo board with setters. I imagine leather would work too. But I got this when I ordered the crystal rivets and I am very happy with how it worked. http://springfieldleather.com/29317/Kit%2CCrystal-Rivet-Setter/
LoriF Report post Posted June 17, 2014 Thanks all, I ended up using a scrap of suede and no problems, but I think I'm definitely going to check out the poundo boards--
