Raw, Veg Tanned Guitar Strap Question

Recommended Posts

I have a good friend that asked me to make him a guitar strap that is... raw. That is no dye. I've never done this before.

He wants the color of the raw leather.

I know this guy is a big sweater when he plays.

I am worried about the sweat leaving stains or discoloring the leather.

I use a furniture grade leather on my straps as a backer.

Any tips?

Thanks

It will look even better with age and dirt, but you can add a layer of protection like resolene or leather lacquers like wyosheen

I would ask him first, . . . he has asked for raw, . . . that is what I would give him, . . .

After a few gigs on a Milwaukee stage, . . . it ought to have it's own personalized color bands :cowboy:

May God bless,

Dwight

A raw look is not the same as untreated.
Ask him if you can use "uncolored" products to protect the leather or if he really want totally untreated leather.
There are numerous products to protect leather without dyes....

He just wants the color of the natural leather.

He actually wants a "cream" type of color. I showed him a piece of raw veg, and thats exactly what he wants.

Now I know him, and like I said in my original post, hes a sweater. Its my concern more then his.

Seal it with Tan-Kote then Clear-Lac (or one of the other lacquer finishes). The color change with use will be awesome.
