cercyonis Report post Posted October 3, 2014 My niece wants me to make this hobo bag for her. How in the heck can I make all those stinkin' flowers without cutting them with scissors!? I have searched and searched for a punch, to no avail. Any ideas besides telling her to cut 'em all out herself?
Ferg Report post Posted October 3, 2014 To me the obvious answer is to have a company who makes clicking dies, make you a hammer die. That small should be no problem. ferg
MonicaJacobson Report post Posted October 3, 2014 (edited) LOL, wow, they would be annoying to cut out. You might be able to buy already cut out leather flowers from somewhere. Springfield has some flower shapes for sale, and I bet you can find them a lot of places. Cool idea for a bag, btw... Wishful Report post Posted October 3, 2014 (edited) I have seen them for sale at craft stores in small quantities. Although I have not tried myself, some folks have success with a cricut machine on thin leather. Do a search on that Edited October 3, 2014 by Wishful
Tgrlily Report post Posted October 4, 2014 There is a flower cutting die for sizzix and it cuts thinner leather very well. I have the Sizzix Big Kick. I use it to emboss some designs and cut small things like leaves, flowers, gears and the motif I use for monograms.
cercyonis Report post Posted October 4, 2014 I so appreciate this forum. Good responses; I hadn't even heard of a Cricut machine, but now I'm intrigued after researching. Just worried that after spending $250, it'll get destroyed by cutting out a hundred leather flowers. Mallet dies cost a lot, however, so tough to justify the price for one project. Thank you, friends.
Troy Burch Report post Posted October 4, 2014 Maybe a rosetta cutter, or even a cookie cutter might be work if your leather is wet.
Tgrlily Report post Posted October 4, 2014 I've had my Sizzix for over 3 years. Embossed a lot of copper with it before using it on leather. Last Halloween we cut a ridiculous number of leaves out of thin veg tan leather for my daughter's Poison Ivy costume. It's still going strong.

Thank you, friends. I thought the Cricut sounded marvelous, so I went and looked it up online. However, it won't work offline or without being logged into the Cricut website. Since I would want to do personal drawings, sketches, and such, this seems a bit controlling. Still, pretty neat.
cercyonis Report post Posted October 5, 2014 Exactly, that's what ultimately is keeping me away from the Cricut Express. Otherwise, it seems incredibly useful.
cercyonis Report post Posted October 19, 2014 Update: I borrowed a Sizzix Original machine and some dies from my niece. It's a lot of fun. Here are some flowers I cut out of thin leather:
cercyonis Report post Posted December 6, 2014 Update (probably no one cares, but oh well)... I did the purse. Used the Sizzix Original. Love it. Cut out all those stinkin' flowers with no problem.

electrathon Report post Posted December 6, 2014 While I can't say that I would carry it (or any purse, LOL). I really like it. Nice design.
