Members theonechrissharpe Posted October 24, 2014 Members Report Posted October 24, 2014 Hey everyone. I am doing some dye tests to see what colour i want to use on my next sheath and I am not seeing a difference between light and dark brown. I applied 2 coats for each colour, but I don't seem to tell Light brown being all that light. Am i applying to thick? In picture dark brown is on bottom and light brown is on top. Quote
Members biglew Posted October 25, 2014 Members Report Posted October 25, 2014 I have had the same problem..... It gets a bit better when I dilute it by 50% and spray it in an airbrush for and even coat. Quote
Jaymack Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 I dilute fiebings dye from 4:1 to 6:1. I learned this the hard way! Quote
Members theonechrissharpe Posted October 25, 2014 Author Members Report Posted October 25, 2014 Thanks guys. Ive never diluted dye before. Is it done with just water?? Quote
Members plowboy73 Posted October 25, 2014 Members Report Posted October 25, 2014 Denatured alcohol works great! Quote
Members SeanFerrill Posted November 3, 2014 Members Report Posted November 3, 2014 I dilute with 50% alcohol and it makes a huge difference. Im using the pro oil dye but dilution helps with the plain spirit dye as well. Quote
AndyL1 Posted November 5, 2014 Report Posted November 5, 2014 I feel ya! I use the "light" brown a majority of the time. I cut it 2:1 with denatured alcohol. After I antique, it ends up the perfect color for my needs. Quote
Members keplerts Posted November 8, 2014 Members Report Posted November 8, 2014 JayMack, in your dilution ratio, what part is the 4 and 6? Are they the dye or the alcohol? So, is it 4 parts dye to 1 part alcohol or 4 parts alcohol to 1 part dye?? Tom Quote
