Would Appreciate Your Advise On Restoring This Singer 45K25

Recommended Posts

Hi Jimi,

Thank you for your thoughts. The wife is due back today. I'll do the video, hopefully it will show you professionals what's causing the breakage. I'm really curious about it.

Best regards

Hello Good People,

Here are some videos of the top thread break puzzle. Two videos showing the machine sewing perfectly with out material under foot and two showing it breaking the top thread with leather under foot.

Well, every time I try to post a video, I get a message saying the video is too large. I cut the size in half with Windows Movie Maker, then got the message I couldn't post that type of file.

Does any know how to reduce the size of videos taken with an Apple iphone? The maximum single file size is 1.46MB

Thank you.

Hallo Evo166K

Dropbox is very good to many things, among a solution to your aktuell problems.

Open a Dropbox account - you gets 2 or 5 GB for free - upload easily from any computer, phone or tablets anything, no matter how many MB the (video) file is > place in the "public" folder > copy the URLadress > live it in any post you like or at any site you want > since the URL is a an embedded adress, everybody can opened in any Webbrowser.

And if you suddenly find yourself in Kolombo or North Pole with only your mobilphone and need some important document you just download it too your device.

If you open a account, be aware you can let Dropbox scan your device for all kinds of pictures, text files, video files and it will automatically reach the sky. Or you kan select manual witch files and folder you want on Dropbox server.

Edith: If you upload a video file to Dropbox and poste rhe URL anywhere, those who are interested to watch the video, don't need to download the video, it's can be streamed directly.

Hei Hyttogpine,

Takk for svaret ditt. Vil Dropbox tillate meg å redusere en 3MB iPhone video ned til ca 1.46MB?

Hello Hyttogpine,

Thank you for your reply. Will Dropbox allow me to reduce a 3MB iPhone video down to about 1.46MB?

The answer is no.

Dropbox is a storehouse. Not a factory who adapt or convert anything.

You get the master key for this part of the storehouse you administer. Thats it. If you want have two or three huge wooden boxes to keep your goods in, or 73 cardboard boxes. You have the right to lend out a secondary key, to any perso you like, for any particular boxes you like them to look into.

Before you get lost. The different boxes are a counterparts to folders.

Why would you compress the 3MB video file to 1.46MB ? Let the world se you artistic skills as a filmmaker, in a better quality than 1.46MB. Ok, I guess your problems. Probably they are the same character as min. I guess both of us need a URL adress where the the video (picture?) are stored ?

Hopefully, there's someone clever than me, dropping by. Explain if this site have enough space to store it self.

An advantage by Dropbox. You have a lovely melody would like to send to your grandmother, here and now. But unfortunately most delivers of email refuse to send emails bigger than ? MB. You will get your email in return and your grandmother i Australia will weep. Therefore upload your melody to Dropbox, then send the URL adress to Australia . . . . vola, grandmother now be rocking to your melodi. She can even download it.

By the way, if you, now or later need to convert or scale up/down there is good small software program called Format Factory, and it's for free. It's pretty nice to anything about pictures, sounds, Videos, joining/splitting, ripping disk etc.

The video showing the thread breaking problem that I'm trying to post is too large for the LW 1.46MB maximum. I've learned how to resize it, but doing so doesn't leave enough video to show the problem properly. The next best thing is to break the video into thirds with each third being a separate post. Playing each third in sequence will demonstrates the issue.

The first video stands alone and shows the machine sewing properly without material. Please be assured, the foot and feed dog do not touch at any time.

First video - no material

My Movie no material - first.wmv

Second video - no material

My Movie no material.wmv

First third with material

My Movie first third of tape.wmv

Second third with material

My Movie second third.wmv

Third third with material

My Movie third third.wmv

Anyone have any ideas why this thread is breaking? Thank you very much for your input.

You don't upload it to LW. You upload the full size file to a free account at dropbox. That file will now have a url address. You then copy that address and post just the address on LW. When someone goes to the address, the video plays. Dropbox has metric boatloads of hard drive space for all of your videos. LW does not. That is why file sizes are limited on the site. You could also create a youtube account, upload the video and post a link to it here instead of dropbox.

Great explanation TinkerTailor, I can understand that. Thank you. Is Dropbox more private than YouTube; for example, would my video show up on a Google search?

Yeah, you have alot more privacy settings on dropbox. You can make youtube videos private and things, but it is a pain. Youtube is a public site that added some privacy settings and drop box is a private storage site with public access options, if that helps.

You can also mark the Videos on Youtube as "Not Listed". I always do that. But I honestly find Youtube not very comfortable to use. But thats probably just me. Lots of other Youtube punks seems to like it.

Thanks Constabulary.

Do you have any thoughts on why the thread in the video is breaking. The thread is a 138 coated fiberglass and the needle is a 23. It's a puzzle why it sews well without material but not with. A number 25 titanium coated needle didn't help.

I have had to step back and go through the posts and I am left with the odd question.

1/ Why do you want to try and run this rediculously technical thread?

2/ This thread is normally used in high value applications where the thread supplier would be involved in machine set up so are you going to try and manufacture specialist high value items?

3/ If two is true then why are you trying to get advice from a site like this?

4/ If two is not true then just use a realistic thread.

Perhaps he has a whole bunch to use up and can't bring himself to throw it out. Or the people who made it are long gone.

Where else are we supposed to ask questions about how to do what we are not supposed to be able to do with Mr. Leather and his tools and machines?

.......That was a mouthful.....phew

Hi Al, could it be a sharp edge on the right hand tip of your shuttle race. that is where i have a groove worn, due to the shuttle jumping that gap??

Hi Darren,
Good questions. Why get hung up on that thread? We used that thread regularly years ago in our business to sew Kevlar sleeves onto high temperature Textoglass (fancy fiberglass) mittens for use around molten aluminum. We sold the business, so I'll most likely never sew with it again, but I'm just curious enough and stubborn enough to want to find out what's making it break. I tested the breaking strength with a scale to 12 pounds (5.44 kg); Would you think that would be strong enough to penetrate 8 oz. (3.17 mm) veg tan with a 23 round needle? It's been an issue for weeks and I can't figure it out.

Hi TinkerTailor,
You certainly have an uncanny way of seeing through to the heart of the matter. Btw, you're correct, we do have a lot of that thread left, but that's incidental. Like you suggested with that well chosen mouthful of words, I want to learn.

Hi Jimi,
That's a good thought. That area of the shuttle race could be the cause, I can't tell. It and the other parts don't feel rough. Do you see anything in the pictures irregular or suspect on the shuttle race, the inner race or the shuttle?

Gentlemen, would you please take another close look at the Third third video, the last one? Do you see the slight beginning of a break in the thread, just before the midway point in the video, and before the thread reaches the right end of the shuttle race? If that is the beginning of a break, would you think it happens before it reaches the shuttle race or as it passes the shuttle race the previous rotation or two?

I'm trying to install and upload using dropbox. Once I figure it out, I'll post a better video showing what's happening. Ok, let's look at this video:

The video you want to share. You have to put into the folder named "public".

It's quite long time since I spend time on Dropbox. But If this folder not already exists, you made a folder named public.

Earlier you would be able to share, to others, from any folders you made on Dropbox. But because of better security on the site Dropbox. Sharing files now, is only possible (?) from the your "public" folder.

I apologise my English, that is not as good as others.

hyttogpine,

Thanks for the information. I created a folder in dropbox called public, but I'm not sure if I did it correctly. Would you please try the link above again and let me know if the video works.

I noticed yesterday before I created the Public folder, when I clicked on the dropbox link above, it asked me to login. I closed the login box without logging in and it took me to the video which played. I believe Dropbox was trolling to hook new members, I may be wrong

This time the link works. I came to your video. So you make it right (when we talk about Dropbox).

Before I click on the video, I see a picture of the bobbin & shuttle. But on the "time counter" ? it tells 0.0 /0.1 (minute/sek.). When I click on the video, it starts to "buffer" and continues by buffering.

You are now close to the finish line.

The problems can be two things (actually three). Instead of uploading a video clip, you in a rush have upload a single photo. Or it could an issue of the video format ?

It seems like your video format is .MOV An Appel-format. I don't know these days, but earlier everything of Apple (but here and now: pictures & video) was hard to deal with. Unless you was a member of the club. If you're sure it's a video you uploaded. Try alternative to upload the orginale, before you did the compression. Or try to convert your (original) video to another format, for instance mp4, AVI, 3GP, WMV or swf.

But before you do anything, make yourself a cup of warm chocolate, watch the birds outside your windows. And wait fore feedback from someone other - without Apple equipment.

The third options : it could be my tablet. But then it would be first time it refuse to play a video.

EVO, don't despair. You have went into and learn new stuff, beside the leather world.

The link and the video above is quite all right. I still can't play it on my tablet, but instead I download your .MOV video to the tablet, transfer it to a computer and watch the video easily in VLC player and by a little pushing in Windows Media player to. And it was the area I have a modest practice about?

Why your threads break I have opinions about, I'm a amateur.

Actually I'm a bit impressed of you. Well done and good luck.

I can´t see what is happening but when other threads are working I´d say the problem is this particular therad - maybe too old. I would simply not use it anylonger.

Sorry about the pointed questions but it would not be the first time someone has tried to set up a commercial enterprise on the cheap!

I suspect that everything needs to be perfect for this thread. There is some wear evident in the shuttle race ring and the shuttle point. The race ring p/no 91430 and the shuttle are available new but they may not solve the problem.

How close is the shuttle getting to the needle and is there much slop in the shuttle? Try a thin carboard shim - cerial boxes are good - behind the ring to push it closer to the needle and see what happens.

Well..., aint got a clue Al.if it is not being pinched or frayed by a sharp edge... then folker is probably right, it could be that the thread is old?? did you try it in your adler 30 ??

It could be something stupid like one side of the spool sat with one side exposed to a window and every second foot of thread is brittle from UV exposure. Or the whole roll got dropped at some time and one end or corner has cracked fibers. It is glass.....Every time the thread gets to that corner it breaks. When you tested it you got the good part.
