jlanning215 Report post Posted November 27, 2014 Hello everyone, I want to make a camera strap with nylon loops at the end of the strap that will attach to the camera itself. The picture attached is an example of what I'm talking about. The difference will be a dee ring opposite the loop. how to a secure something like nylon rope or even a leather loop at the end of a strap. Is there a specific way to stitch the leather? I handstitch just so you know. not sure if that'll guide the suggestions. THanks Josh
camano ridge Report post Posted November 27, 2014 If I undersdtand you are saying that you want to make a leather piece that goes around the d ring similar to the picture then you want a loop of nylon or leather similar to the picture. I think the picture is pretty self explanatory. Loop your piece of leather around the D ring Using contac cement glue your loop between the two end of your leather that you have wrapped around the d ring. When the glue has dried. Use a hammer and tap lightly to flatten some. Mark your stich holes punc holes and saddle stitch as normal. You can do a stitch pattern similar to the picture and it should give plenty of strength. If you are using something round (you mentioned nylon rope. Ue a hammer t flatten the ends as much as possible ind now follow the same sequence. Dwight Report post Posted November 28, 2014 I'm with Red Cent, . . . not enough information to understand exactly what is wanted or needed. Can you do a picture or a drawing??? May God bless, Dwight
TwinOaks Report post Posted November 28, 2014 I'm with Camano....If what you are after is what's in the picture, but with a D ring, just wrap a tab around the D ring. There's no special sewing technique to it. Glue in place to hold until you get the holes punched. If you're trying to do it with loop, maybe make two sections of stitching so the rope has a little channel to sit in between the stitches. If you went with rivets, it'd just be one rivet close to the D, a space, then another rivet close to the end of a tab....just like on a belt. You'd just have rope between the two rivets instead of a belt keeper.
jlanning215 Report post Posted November 30, 2014 (edited) The picture I posted in my first post should give a good idea what I'm trying to do. I'm wanting to take a rectangle of leather, fold that through a D ring. Then on the open end of the rectangle (opposite the D ring) I want to take a cord (Nylon or leather...) and "sandwich" the ends of the cord inside the open end of the folded rectangle. I'm concerned on how to sew the ends of the cord between the leather so that I have a secure and long lasting effect. jlanning215 Report post Posted November 30, 2014 Here is a drawing about what I'm talking about. The ends of the loop between the leather. How do you sew that?
camano ridge Report post Posted November 30, 2014 Jlanning. That is exactly what I thought you wanted. My earlier post has not changed. I would take your piece of leather wrap it around the d ring as in your drawing, then place the cord in between the ends of the piece of leather. However I would put enough cord in between the leather to reach to the D ring. You will then have plenty of cord attached to the leather to give a strong hold. Again glue the ends of the leather together sandwiching the cord between the ends and make sure you get glue on the cord as well. Then stitch. If you use the box with an X in it sewing pattern like Tree reapers picture you will stitch through the cord several times and should end up with a fairly strong attachment. I would use a hammer to flatten the ends of the cord that will be sandwiched in between the ends of the leather this will give more area to stich through. TwinOaks Report post Posted November 30, 2014 either connect the loop, or stitch through it. Or glue it in with good contact cement, then stitch through it. Or melt the end and smash it flat so there's an attached 'spade' on the end....and stitch through the flats. ETA: Looks like Camano posted while I was typing...oops.
