Singer 78-3 Info

I have a chance to get a Singer 78-3.Can any one tell me any thing about a Singer 78-3. How thick of leather will it sew? Largest needle, and thread? Thanks

Combined upper and needle feed, no under feed.

Upholstery leather at most I would guess by the description.

I've tried them on heavier leather & they won't sew it,they would make a great chap machine or lighter weight leather for purses & wallets.They have a walking foot,needlefeed that pulls it through pretty good.

I have a 78-3 while I haven't had it very long it will easily sew 5/16 inches of deer skin stacked up. I have found it will go over any thick seam I have come across. I haven't tried to see what the max thread it will use yet. If the price is right it would be a good machine to have for the work it can do. They do NOT mark the leather like one with a bottom feed dog that has teeth. Being needle feed they have smooth foot so it doesn't mark either. I have 5 machines so each has a job to do.

Thanks catskin, It is one that a friend gave to me so I will give it a try on lighter material.
