cgleathercraft Report post Posted December 5, 2014 I visited a gun shop that just opened up near my hometown and I inquired about them selling some leather. They were very receptive and said they would like to carry slings and holsters. They get the most requests for holsters fitting glocks and 1911s. I know I can get most glocks covered with just a couple blue guns but am having trouble locating a generic one for the 1911s. I've read a couple of other threads here that state one manufacturer will make their firearm just a smidge bigger or smaller than another and this causes an issue with retention (either too much or too little). Anyone have a suggestion?
camano ridge Report post Posted December 5, 2014 (edited) I have a 1911 5" holster mold from Bunkhouse tools and it works just fine for most 1911 5". However there are some such as Sigs and Kimbers that have there own quircks. However most of the ones trying to be 1911 look alikes will be close enough to being the same. I have made holsters for Rock Island, STI, Norinco and a couple of others without any problem. Edited December 5, 2014 by camano ridge
Paramedic04 Report post Posted December 16, 2014 I'm using the Blackhawk Demonstrator 5" 1911 for my 1911 holsters ($20 compared to $45 for Ring's Blue Gun). It has a rail on it, but I've found that when I wet mold the holsters, most of the retention is from molding around the trigger well, making the rail a moot point. I've also used it to make several holsters for Kimbers and Springfield models without issues.
Dwight Report post Posted December 16, 2014 I have three blue gun 1911's, . . . full size, commander, and pip-squeek size. Which ever is needed is the one I use. Of all I have ever done, . . . my worst one was a Springfield, . . . I was told it was an older model "loaded", . . . stainless steel, full size, single sided safety. The slide was just enough bigger that it simply would not fit anything else I had, . . . But it was the worst. May God bless, Dwight
