Members JamesClifton Posted February 27, 2015 Members Report Posted February 27, 2015 This is a carry on bag that i just finished. it is my first work of any significance. My orignal plan was to add a lot more tooling to the body and lid but i soon realized that my skill level is just not up to it at this point. so i added the celtic cross on the ends and left it at that. I used 7-8oz leather so it will hold it's shape in everything short of a plane crash. Anyway, i'm happy with how it turned out and welcome feedback. thanks Quote
Members Rohn Posted February 27, 2015 Members Report Posted February 27, 2015 That really looks nice. I like the lacing it adds a very nice look to the bag. The straps are nice and the carved cross is tastefully done. Excellent job on the entire bag. It is a work to be happy with. Quote
Members JamesClifton Posted February 28, 2015 Author Members Report Posted February 28, 2015 Thanks, I appreciate the comments. The lacing was time consuming but i think it works well. Quote
Members Jon P Posted February 28, 2015 Members Report Posted February 28, 2015 I agree with Rohn, nicely done! Quote
Members scottyslife Posted February 28, 2015 Members Report Posted February 28, 2015 Agreed, a very nice bag Regards, Scott Quote
Members leatherwytch Posted February 28, 2015 Members Report Posted February 28, 2015 I Love the lacing and the celtic cross. Well done. It look like it holds a lot. Quote
Members Basically Bob Posted February 28, 2015 Members Report Posted February 28, 2015 Looks great! Lots of planning and work in that, for sure! Quote
Members MonicaJacobson Posted February 28, 2015 Members Report Posted February 28, 2015 Nice job, James! I think you were right to stick to just the crosses on the end. It looks cool and classy, and the crosses make it even better. That's a really cool project. Quote
Members Wild Bill46 Posted February 28, 2015 Members Report Posted February 28, 2015 You have a good grasp on your leather crafting. It looks as though its thought out and properly constructed. I like the size alot, for a carry on bag. if you don't mind my asking what are its dimensions ? As with the others, I like your Mexican braiding, It sets this bag apart. --- Wild Bill46 Quote
Members JamesClifton Posted February 28, 2015 Author Members Report Posted February 28, 2015 Thanks again for all the positive comments. Now that it is done and I'm thinking of making a companion laptop bag. As for the dimensions it is 17 3/4" length over all and i listed the other dimensions in the pic. I tried to keep it a little within what the airline considers acceptable for a carry on. I would hate to be that guy trying to stuff an over sized bag in the over head bin and i sure don't want to check it. Quote
Members rosiart Posted February 28, 2015 Members Report Posted February 28, 2015 Nice bag and you will not have to worry about identifying yours amongst the sea of black bags. :-) As you mentioned the dimensions and you're needing to keep within the airline restrictions for cabin luggage, can I ask how much this weighs? I have toyed with the idea but thought it would get too heavy, given the weight restrictions on some flights. Quote
Members JamesClifton Posted March 1, 2015 Author Members Report Posted March 1, 2015 This bag weighs in at 4lbs 11oz compared to my roller board at 7.5lbs. Now my roller board is 3" longer and 2" wider so it is a bit bigger. Quote
Members Wild Bill46 Posted March 2, 2015 Members Report Posted March 2, 2015 Thank you for the measurements. I'm keeping this bag for a future project. I have too many at present to do any more, any justice. again; thanx Wild Bill46 Quote
Members Calvus Posted March 2, 2015 Members Report Posted March 2, 2015 Wow! Very nice and very impressive. You've given me an idea for a gift for my sister. Quote
Members Tugadude Posted March 2, 2015 Members Report Posted March 2, 2015 Very nice. Any in-progress pics? I agree with the decision on the carving, but you could have put a small celtic cross or trescallion on the front flap. Perfect spot for it. Love the whole bag! Quote
Boriqua Posted November 13, 2015 Report Posted November 13, 2015 Very nicely done. Be watchful when you put that bad boy through the scanner and make sure you are there to retrieve it at the other end! Quote
