First Shoulder Bag (Wet-Formed Gussets)

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

Did this two weeks ago for a friend of mine. It's a simple design — and deliberately so, as she's very much into that minimalist aesthetic.

Hope you like it.

Adam

Thanks, guys! :)

Nice job!

What weight leather do you use on the gusset? Do you skive the edges?

The whole bag is made from 8 oz. shoulder. There was no need for skiving the edges, this stuff wet-forms and stitches like a dream.

The crease is about 13 mm wide, I think, but you could get away with much less. I have made lots and lots of smaller things, but this happened to be my first larger bag. I'd say go for it, it's well worth a try. By the way: I simply formed the gussets over a last.

Thank you!

a last?

Like a cobbler's last ... a wooden dummy to aid in shaping the leather. Is there a better term for it?
