Need Imput On The Consew 227R-2 !

Recommended Posts

Hello to everyone! I'm new to this forum, and Love all the help and advice that's offered! I mainly make quilted handbags, like the popular ones out on the market.I had a Singer 20U, and now have a Sailrite Lsz1 which I like, but at times simply doesn't with seem to be quite what I need. I realize I need a compound walking foot. I've been researching, and tried out the Consew 227R-2.(Nick-O St. Louis area) and I liked it right away, but would love to have some imput on this model. Would another manufactuer/clone of this machine be just as good?

Quite often, I'm working with "thick" layors of quilted fabric, that I can hardly get through the sailrite. I would like to start working with some leather (purse weight). I also try my hands at many other projects using canvas. I am going to take some of "my" samples to try out on the Consew.

I'm on a tight budget, but have saved some money! If someone out there knows of the right machine compared to the Consew, please let me know! I can get the whole (Consew) package for around $1895.00. Right now I feel pretty confident about this purchase, but I just want to be sure there isn't an even better deal!!...before I spend my hard earned money! Again, I want to Sincerely Thank all of You out there! This is a terrific forum. Best regards! Suzanne : )

I have had this machine (Consew 227R-2) for a while now, and I am quite happy with it... I have no complaints at all. It is very easy to use, and it is very versatile... It will sew 46 to 207 thread with no issues.

I concur with what Tramp said, I use this machine almost daily sewing some rather heavy stuff. It takes all I give it and keeps coming back for more. Very durable and easy to service. One of the better machine purchases I've made.

You might want to look at a Cowboy CB227R from Bob Kovar at Toledo Sewing Machine. It is basically the same machine. It will be a couple hundred cheaper and the Cowboy is an excellent machine. Bob will treat you right.

Thank You so much for the help! Thanks Art! I will look into the Cowboy, and actually left a message for him just today to get back with me. I imagine shipping costs, etc. might help me make my decision.

Thank You Hockey Mender! If if can handle some of the jobs you have listed, I'm sure it will do what I need!

Thanks Tramp...I too Love to bike! All the best to you! I'll give you a follow up! This forum is teriffic ! Finally, I found some feedback on a Consew227R-2! Thanks to all! )

Hi Suzanne, the 227 or equivalent would definitely be a good machine for leather and canvas. Our version (Techsew 2700) is very commonly used for sewing purses, bags and other leather goods. You may also want to consider a similar machine with a large bobbin or more narrow cylinder arm. We carry a few different types of these machines.

Thank You Ron! I'll be checking the 2700 on line now. Might even be able to get a better deal. Seems to be the same machine. Best regards!

Welcome Suzanne. This site has been phenomenal for my personal learning about leatherwork.

I'll leave the specific advice about suitable machines to the many experts here.

What I would suggest you consider is not only the suitability of the machine but maybe more important than that is the issue of later service. Time after time you hear about how important the after sale service is to keep you running. If Nick-o-Sew is local to you, I would suggest that any machine you can buy thru them will likely result in the best service when your machine needs service later. That can easily even the score if the price difference is oy a couple hundred bucks.

I say buy local, or you might not have someplace to buy local from down the road.

Hi JohnOK ! Yes, I agree! I truly love everyone's advice, but I too have found that it's nice to have a local dealer if possible, for future service. More costs would obviously come in to play if I would have to ship it out for service! And the dealer I'm referring to, is not that far away! Thank You so much and have a great day! )

Just wanted to let everyone know, I purchased the Consew 227R-2! It arrives tomorrow! I'm excited about using this machine, and want to Thank all of You again for your imput. I did have to take into consideration, distance, service, etc. I will still be lurking in the shadows (LOL) reading about all the great imput on this forum. Pay it Forward! God Bless!
