Members Frederiek Posted August 2, 2015 Members Report Posted August 2, 2015 Showing you a sheath I made from veg tan with a stingray inlay. The knife is also by me Hope you like it!! Quote
Members Kerryanne Posted August 2, 2015 Members Report Posted August 2, 2015 That's really nice, what's the stingray feel like? Was it nice to work with? Quote
Members Frederiek Posted August 2, 2015 Author Members Report Posted August 2, 2015 It feels like... really coarse sandpaper but polished, it's flexible but the 'beads' (lacking a better word) are hard like glass. Cutting it in a straight line is almost impossible! Not easy to work with but very rewarding Quote
Members Kerryanne Posted August 2, 2015 Members Report Posted August 2, 2015 You did a braw job then, it is really cool. Quote
Members snubbyfan Posted August 2, 2015 Members Report Posted August 2, 2015 Very nice, both the knife and the sheath. Quote
Members capsterdog Posted August 2, 2015 Members Report Posted August 2, 2015 Both are wonderful, love the stingray. You did a great job on centering the white spine. Quote
Members Bruce H Posted August 2, 2015 Members Report Posted August 2, 2015 Wow...Thats really, really nice! The knife is excellent with good file work and a nice grind! What steel? Thats one of the best dangler sheaths I've seen...X2 on centering the spine! Been wanting to build a nice knife grinder and have had my eye on the polar bear grinder in a box. Your skills are awesome! Thanks for sharing! Quote
Members MonicaJacobson Posted August 3, 2015 Members Report Posted August 3, 2015 Very nice! I love the knife - the handle is spalted/rotted/maple? The sheath is lovely. Very clean, really cool use of the stingray. Quote
Members Jon P Posted August 3, 2015 Members Report Posted August 3, 2015 Beautiful work on both the knife and the sheath... Stingray truly is rewarding to work with.... Quote
Members Frederiek Posted August 3, 2015 Author Members Report Posted August 3, 2015 Thanks all very much!! The steel is O1 with stainless corby bolts and mosaic pin, the wood is stabilised (vacuum treated with resin) spalted beech. Quote
Members Petewon Posted August 3, 2015 Members Report Posted August 3, 2015 Beatiful work. The knife looks great too, I love that pattarn on back edge between the handle. Quote
Members kiwican Posted August 3, 2015 Members Report Posted August 3, 2015 Both pieces are brilliant, but i really love that sheath. im gonna go and catch me a stingray! Quote
Members Frederiek Posted August 6, 2015 Author Members Report Posted August 6, 2015 Haha :D Rayskin is widely available since it's a by-product. Do look for a source with a proper policy. Quote
