Strap End Punch

Recommended Posts

hiya all.

i just brought a strap end punch from goods japan.

on cutting with it i noticed it does not cut equal sides.

one side is longer cut than other side on inspecting the tool end you can see clearly

its made this way.

i,ve watched loads of videos and the strap end is not a equal cut on both sides of the belt or dog collar,

depending on what there making in the video.

is this the norm or am i being to precise about it.

it just does not look right with one cut side longer than the other.

Before sending it back , make sure you position the punch properly . I use a square ruler on the strap and butt the punch against it making sure in the same time it's centered too...take a look a the picture bellow.

I have an Osborne and it seems it has the same problem as your goodsjapan. I've tried the set square method and a few others and just have to position it just right. It's usually okay but a pain when you're in a rush.

I don't know if you'll be able to get a Dixon tool as they have closed down.

All mine are dixons. I have never had a problem with theirs. I probably use my round knife more to chisel the end. (I am to lazy to get the punch from my board.)
