According to the specs, the DNU-1541 can handle up to #138 thread, top and bottom.

I looked long and careful at the Juki 1541's, the 1508NH, (and related clones like Artisan, Techsew, Thor)

I settled on a Juki LU-2810A and I am VERY happy with my choice. Huge bobbin, high foot lift, adjustable climbing, longer 13" arm, dry head, etc etc. It will sew through anything I can stick under the foot and ask for more. It's primarily a "big" format upholstery machine (auto interiors etc). It's made to sew multiple layers of plastics and leathers and vinyls and thick foam padding.

The "A" version I got has Euro style feet (Adler style) but the "S" version is available "standard" feet (Singer 111W, Juki 1541, Juki 563, etc)

A good Juki dealer should be able to get you one with a servo motor for about $2600 give or take. It's basically Juki's answer to the 867 but with a much less painful sticker price.

Here is a full auto version of the 2810. If I did not already have one I would jump on this machine in a heartbeat.

This vid shows everything the full-auto version is capable of:

Wizcraft you mentioned a larger bobbin in a modified Singer 111. What’s involved in changing the hook & bobbin case. Is the larger a direct fit?

Thank you

The machine isn't exactly a 111 model. It is a 20" body Singer 139w109. However, the moving parts and stitch length adjuster are the same as my 111w153, except the case and  top and bottom shafts which are extra long.

It was custom built for me by Bob Kovar, owner of Toledo Industrial Sewing Machines. You'll have to ask him what was involved in converting it to the LU Juki hook.

I can tell you that the LU hook makes the timing very touchy compared to our standard 111w153. There is almost always a snap as the top thread goes around the shuttle and I have a lot more skipped stitches on this machine than most others, especially when sewing through leather tape between the layers. I only use titanium needles to minimize the glue buildup on needles. There is also more tweaking of the check spring needed than on the standard 111 machine.

Would I buy another machine with an oversize hook conversion? Probably not.

Juki LU-562 or 563. Like the exact same machine with a reverse lever thrown on.
