Kangaroo Leather Card And Money Holder And Question

Ok did this project as something to try took a 4 oz leather square and covered it on one side with roo hide, the other side with pig skin. Card slots are 3 oz veg tan leather same as the clasp.

Now my question well two is A: How do you get it so the pigskin does not wrinkle when you fold what ever project in half as I did. I pushed all the air out with the mallet and my hand after glueing it flat and tight to the piece of leather. And yet it still wrinkles.

Second question is there a better way to do the corners when you are doing a rolled edge as I did here so that there is no real gap, as there are a couple of tiny gaps even though the roo skin is pulled hard and tight.

Oh the other reason I did this project well two reason, one never did something like this (the wraping part) and second reason was I figured if I started at 6 am with the pricking iron and mallet (as it is all hand sewn) it would drive the in laws out of my house...saddly it did not, but it was fun to listen to the whining and complaining!!!

Just a quick thought. What about wrapping the roo around first and then gluing the pockets on top of it? It would then effectively cover the termination of the folded edge. The pockets would still be inset a bit from the edge and protected from wear.

I think the short answer is that you don't . You can try to minimize it, though.

You can glue the pigskin when the leather is folded, but then you get the same wrinkling on the back. Since that is no good, you can try and glue the pigskin in while it is folded half way or a third of the way.

2. Is there a better way to do the corners when you are doing a rolled edge?
I have only attempted this once and failed horribly so I am no pro here. I think you could cut the corners at an angle to that when you roll the edges over, the edges butt up against one another in the corners - so no overlap. Tugadude I did not like the way the edges of the pockets looked so wrapped the roo around them as well, still have plenty of room for cards to slide in. Grmspx thanks for the vid and ugg was hoping there was a way to stop it from wrinkling its not to bad on in the middle where it is wrinkled will give that a try about with the leather being folded next time just to see.

I understand what you mean about the edges, but the edges on the opposite side show on your wallet and don't look bad to my eye. Maybe burnish a bit is all.

3 0z leather is a pain in the ass to burnish lol

I don't find it hard to burnish. Place it on the edge of a firm surface and burnish with a piece of denim or canvas.

have yet to try the canvas or denim trick when burnishing normaly use wood slicker that I have, will have to give that ago thanks grmnsplx
