Members Billy Hell Posted November 12, 2015 Members Report Posted November 12, 2015 I have carved at least 3 pieces trying to get my size right but I'm happy how this last one turned out. Quote

Members keplerts Posted November 12, 2015 Members Report Posted November 12, 2015 Very nice job! Really improving. What did you finish it with and how?? Quote
Members Billy Hell Posted November 12, 2015 Author Members Report Posted November 12, 2015 (edited) On this piece I first hit it with Neatsfoot oil. The color didn't really change. Then I rubbed on some Fiebings oil Saddle tan. After that dried I applied some Fiebings dark brown antique. I liked how it looked on the tooled part but saddle tan is a little to orange for me. I left the tooled part untouched and carefully hit the non tooled areas will rubbing alcohol. This took off just enough of the saddle tan. I rubbed in some antique one more time because I like how it darkens the leather just a bit. Then I finished off with two coats of Bag Kote. All that seemed to make the tooling pop out. The stitching on the inside really didn't look very good (tan on top of black). I took a small paint brush and hit all the stitches with black Fiebings oil dye. I would take a paper towel and wipe off the excess. My iPhone will fit in this. I made it for a lady that has been asking for a wallet but if she doesn't bite I'll keep it. My only issue is the flower looks like a palm tree to me (loooong stem) and I still don't like how skinny my decorative cuts are. I was going to ask $100 since I have around $35 just in the internals - thoughts on that price? Edited November 12, 2015 by Billy Hell Quote
Members Rohn Posted November 12, 2015 Members Report Posted November 12, 2015 I think that is a very fair price. Quote

Members Ember Posted November 12, 2015 Members Report Posted November 12, 2015 Very nice. As for price, I would ask at least $135. Don't undercut yourself and your work. Quote
Members CenricVig Posted November 12, 2015 Members Report Posted November 12, 2015 I like it very much and I agree with Ember $135 is not a bad price for a hand crafted item. If someone wants to complain about the price, let them go to Walmart or another store and buy a wallet made in china, etc. with slave labor that will not last near as long as your will. Just my thoughts.. Quote
Members Billy Hell Posted November 12, 2015 Author Members Report Posted November 12, 2015 It's on ebay right now for that price. I really made it for a local lady but after seeing is she said she needed a strap and snap closure. Too late - HA! If it doesn't sell I'll start using it. Quote
Members CenricVig Posted November 12, 2015 Members Report Posted November 12, 2015 Cool, let us know how it goes with eBay. Quote
Members Steve75 Posted November 19, 2015 Members Report Posted November 19, 2015 Nicely executed. I like the way you worked your maker's mark into the design of your tooling. Quote
