Go2Tex Report post Posted December 9, 2008 Whoa! How'd you do that laser engraving? I know absolutely nuthin' about it.
MADMAX22 Report post Posted December 9, 2008 Pretty cool, allthough not sure about the laser thing. I would feel kind of like I am cheating. Kind of like doing the engraving on a gun with a laser instead of by hand. It is nice that it makes it easier though. Nice looking watch bands. Is that a sub of some kind? I dont recognize the outline.Another question, can you adjust how deep the laser cuts into the leather or is it dependent on the power of the laser that you purchase? Guess Im asking is there a range of depth per power laser that you buy, say one can do 1mm to 3mm (just as an example) and another can do 1mm to 5mm? dragoncut Report post Posted December 9, 2008 The power of the laser is not that important when doing leather. You can adjust the speed and power to control the burn. Yes it is possible to burn into the leather but I like to just burn the surface. The sub is a part of the history of Panerai watches. That strap was ordered to go on a Panerai the guy was getting. Yes the laser is like cheating to do your work. I in now way can compare what I do with it to what is done by other members here. I do not have enough time to attempt to do the things I see here. Yeah sorry didnt mean to sound so rude now that I reread my post. Im sure if I had a laser I would either use it on leather or mount it on a shark ..... I think it looks pretty cool
dragoncut Report post Posted December 9, 2008 (edited) Max, No offense taken. I understand where you are coming from. On a side note I have done and do engraving on guns as well. I wish I had the time to learn to tool leather half as well as what I see here. I travel alot for work so doing a watch strap is pretty easy for me. I can take a few things with me and stitch things when I am away from home. Then hit it with the laser for that one of a kind strap. badger Report post Posted December 9, 2008 Cool! The black strap with the red stitiching is very nice. I like the cross-pollination of traditional and modern. I'm also a fan of clean lines, as I've said before. Great stuff. Cheers, Karl
