Members tardis86 Posted January 21, 2016 Members Report Posted January 21, 2016 What is the standard size oblong punch used for belts? I see there are a bunch of options for size but I don't want to buy a ton of them, I just need 1 for the belt. thanks in advance Quote
Members gmace99 Posted January 21, 2016 Members Report Posted January 21, 2016 It reall depends on the buckle size Quote
Members tardis86 Posted January 21, 2016 Author Members Report Posted January 21, 2016 No idea on the size, I wasn't sure if there's a "most of the time I use this" answer. I have never made a belt before and I wanted to make one for my friend, he will probably use his own buckle anyway. Quote
Members keplerts Posted January 22, 2016 Members Report Posted January 22, 2016 1" is pretty good. Quote
Matt T Posted January 25, 2016 Report Posted January 25, 2016 Tell us the width of the belt and we can give you a better idea.. Quote
Members tardis86 Posted January 25, 2016 Author Members Report Posted January 25, 2016 I plan to make 1.5 inch wide belts for gun belts Quote
Members craftsman827 Posted February 5, 2016 Members Report Posted February 5, 2016 like keplerts said, 1" is good. or you can go with 3/4" if you need it a little larger, you can punch the leather twice, by Overlapping the 3/4" to make 1" or larger. Just my thought on your subject. Quote
Members Colt W Knight Posted February 6, 2016 Members Report Posted February 6, 2016 Thickness of the leather makes a difference as well. I generally just use a 1" oblong punch unless the belt is extra thick, then I like a 1.25 or 1.5" punch. Quote
Members Nuttish Posted February 13, 2016 Members Report Posted February 13, 2016 You can find the correct size by using two round punches at various distances and connecting them by bending the leather and making a straight cut with a very keen razor blade. Quote
