What is the standard size oblong punch used for belts? I see there are a bunch of options for size but I don't want to buy a ton of them, I just need 1 for the belt. thanks in advance

No idea on the size, I wasn't sure if there's a "most of the time I use this" answer. I have never made a belt before and I wanted to make one for my friend, he will probably use his own buckle anyway.

I plan to make 1.5 inch wide belts for gun belts

like keplerts said, 1" is good.

or you can go with 3/4"

if you need it a little larger, you can punch the leather twice, by

Overlapping the 3/4" to make 1" or larger.

Just my thought on your subject.

Thickness of the leather makes a difference as well. I generally just use a 1" oblong punch unless the belt is extra thick, then I like a 1.25 or 1.5" punch.

You can find the correct size by using two round punches at various distances and connecting them by bending the leather and making a straight cut with a very keen razor blade.
