Members kheart Posted January 23, 2016 Members Report Posted January 23, 2016 I've seen this knot a few times now, what is it called? And how do you make it? Thank you! Quote
Moderator bruce johnson Posted January 23, 2016 Moderator Report Posted January 23, 2016 At first glance I thought bleed knot too but this is different. The end is a rolled button. Basically you roll or fold the leather a time or two or three. Then punch a hole through the layers in the middle and feed the end down through the hole and pull tight. This looks like they cut a slit in the tail and fed the button up through it. Quote
Members Ole South Posted January 23, 2016 Members Report Posted January 23, 2016 Bruce Grant called it a Roll Button Leather Braiding book pg 31. At least that's what it looks like. Sorry I don't have a scanner handy atm, I'll try and scan that page tomorrow. Quote
Members Tugadude Posted January 23, 2016 Members Report Posted January 23, 2016 Bleeder knot info...http://www.deepwatertack.co.uk/html/bleed_knots.html Doesn't appear to be a classic bleed knot to me. Quote

Sorry I don't have a scanner handy atm, I'll try and scan that page tomorrow. You're probably referring to this page. The website of which the original picture is seems to be unavailable, but this search shows some more pictures. This is a kangaroo bracelet with black spanish ring buttons, one as an accent and ... It is a flat latigo strap with a rolled button on one end and a slit on the other. https://www.google.com/search?num=50&newwindow=1&hl=en&tbs=sbi%3AAMhZZivRIowR5SpC7q5y_1J4YFMLQpBgDH-P7_1DZBvEOJ0f6wzMMm2KdgtG-sMc71XD7G783Spk74UyRrdp7igS9A9aSt83WpN9mSo44p48g3lKkhgpO_1jEc_1ssxCVX6_1od5pcl8u7xcztwGNJ2VTzhw67RmJ_1nR4jde7sSdW17sO7-XjMqK_1kYIuFX_1mMDEYVWXqog9sYagZ9Ps2VHRVYxqlm-2Ow0qYebT7bg7igIM_1cKxUI8URfBf44Z3NzPVwxOyUmVpJDN098H1tIj95ni0UoE5yDFa95y9eVj9vyGabVxGmaNK-5aH7P98LjisTkIksOCehj8L0odi_1UebEeJjEXzUlD5AaP4zpd5S3t3bB_1rzC0Viky6ZdPg3vWMV3Z3kZg6QJ5xZlKf9Ap9XKVP5AOQKhdtk5H9eJDGX5dwMbE7WVCHlFL7moMFrJFSLOT1CYdiVrg5ncqLhtvT7lTzrVpUqDHPOzjRiYrVXVvEecuzMujaLu8VFCgA0b-vlcxxtbnYMEtyNi4ZmtNcoervmswIn40auBy-5MQO8iB00GS_1XON1pDP-0Wq2GcRs4_1sfYI0NMfQ9snDpnzch_1O9CoNI-7KJtvYyLvn6yILp9rrepC6yND0jhLjbx5VV2n9diur8fzy83EEyIIVe5-kgWmXG2pY_12PXor5oGeoddkDzPm2rFZfi-cmr_1GivthSK-_1XsCpvVvCL3PVtL_1LVcnVD_1vueIqF5JR2N7P2gS_13ZXbO1QFO2QupETbsInZpcvYC2JFGX0uAHk20PekHbZuWPjOR5xBp-_1OrhXPMjC0LEczULQa7eyYgdDcrhIIB6pTE8pXqKUr08oxsRQrU13b62c5tpYHWM7TCtOX1LBuNdMpcjywOz6-nWtFfMbeKgXqAhhsm83D7iuRfc2YL9Q0p04adJrqBYXHZ36wgOUd8Pbc_13jn0HC3s3JMQpS5EBCv9In6rtYi8LHFY9zYU78as_1f_1lx-y6dzkMh7-EjOlHonoGMaO-78jFMLg35nQLfelJxScSvMcixk_1-q43iPld1dDf9MRxUAftwuSkXOKOtleYjacoVwsaO6SH_1C3oXGLW5W8M6h2bnsfxQmofkHHlwqU945PlNd-V1EPBccVtBc2inTLCVaqUcpuBMY-l_110r9hy_1k7-CCxlWV8MSEmujAhI_1YIYyvaOSueRlMc1z2QpQMNs7DsgJQJz2zQv_1jvoEY9oBaMjs3vR87oSZzBS7Wlfa7AgaUSsNkd03JotzuXkmEuaGN_1LNiqXSFhJwvCvRk1SkGzmQB-uFhsaZuiFJx7TSHYWqQRNYWhtY_1TAPrJJenwlbe0&q=rolled+button+and+slit&oq=rolled+button+and+slit&gs_l=serp.3...27885.38328.0.38788.4.4.0.0.0.0.61.215.4.4.0....0...1c.1.64.serp..0.0.0.0.TClgg-GW2ME It definitely isn't a bleed knot Quote
Members Ole South Posted January 23, 2016 Members Report Posted January 23, 2016 That's the page Thor. The knot in the picture appears to be a variant, perhaps a double loop rolled button? I wish we could get a side view. Quote

When I saved the picture was titled something like rolled button and slit. Thank you! Bruce Grant called it a Roll Button Leather Braiding book pg 31. At least that's what it looks like. Members kheart Posted January 23, 2016 Author Members Report Posted January 23, 2016 Thanks for sharing that page Thor. I do think that is what I've been seeing, a rolled button. Except instead of making it round with more layers like in the book, they are only folding it over 2-3 times before pulling it through the slits. I've been seeing it on some latigo leather bosal hangers and such. Quote
Members Ole South Posted January 23, 2016 Members Report Posted January 23, 2016 @kheart: could you get a side view of one of those and post it? Quote
Members kheart Posted January 23, 2016 Author Members Report Posted January 23, 2016 @kheart: could you get a side view of one of those and post it? Will do. Next time I go to town I will snap a picture of it with my phone. It will likely be later this week. Quote
Members kheart Posted January 29, 2016 Author Members Report Posted January 29, 2016 I made one from a piece of latigo scrap I had, it was super easy! Does it have a name other than rolled button? Quote
