Members acook59 Posted January 23, 2016 Members Report Posted January 23, 2016 (edited) Hey guys, i know this is random but can anyone help me identify the sort of thickness of leather being used in this picture? Also, i see sewing on the harness but how do you achieve the rounded edges that are seen there? Are the edges just folded over a bit and sewn? Since it's orange on both sides what have they done here? I'm a noob to sewing you see! Many thanks, Andrew Edited January 23, 2016 by acook59 Quote
Members Ole South Posted January 24, 2016 Members Report Posted January 24, 2016 Looks like a rolled hem. Like you would with fabric. Hard to tell if it's been skived down or probably just 2 oz. Quote
Members acook59 Posted January 24, 2016 Author Members Report Posted January 24, 2016 (edited) 2oz? That seems very very thin to make a harness out of! Rolled hem huh? Can you get a foot to do this for leather? Are there any tutorials for doing this? Edited January 24, 2016 by acook59 Quote
Members Ole South Posted January 24, 2016 Members Report Posted January 24, 2016 2 oz rolled to the back side center = 4oz. Foot?!!? Hemming FOOT???!!! We ain't tailors!!! Glue and hammer with a mallet then stitch. Quote
Members billybopp Posted January 24, 2016 Members Report Posted January 24, 2016 That's a bulldog style harness using horse tack hardware rather than the traditional rings. That one is made using garment leather, probably about 2-3 ounces. Both sides are folded to the centerline, glued in place, and edge stitched. I'd consider it a dress harness rather than on for er ... heavy use. The snaps just won't hold for heavy use. Bill Quote

Are there any tutorials for doing this? You have a lot of questions, and that is great, however in the many years this site has been around most of them have been answered already in much more detail than you will get from asking the question again. Do some research into the types of leather, how they are colored, how they are used. Poke around on this site, you will be amazed what you will find. Moderator Art Posted January 24, 2016 Moderator Report Posted January 24, 2016 The more I look at it, the more it looks like a Biothane type product, it comes with finished edges, creased edges, and is available in international orange colors. Looks like Jeremiah Watt harness hardware. The gear in the picture is definitely club gear, not dungeon gear.
