Members robb01 Posted January 29, 2016 Members Report Posted January 29, 2016 When I use the press to do snaps I get a ring around the base of the snaps, not sure what I'm doing wrong. Here's a pic of the issue http://i.imgur.com/4V29JJU.jpg Quote
ChriJ Posted January 29, 2016 Report Posted January 29, 2016 I just got my press but only used it to set a snap to see how it worked so I don't know how much help I can be. The instructions were a little confusing (at least to me) on the which top half of the die to use. Maybe the wrong top half of the die was used. Chris Quote
Members robb01 Posted January 29, 2016 Author Members Report Posted January 29, 2016 They were confusing, but the die set for the snap really can only go one way with the flat half on bottom. Quote
Members DrmCa Posted January 29, 2016 Members Report Posted January 29, 2016 Maybe post the pictures of the press with the die set installed? Without seeing it's really hard to tell. It may be the case of just using too much force. The snaps do not need too much of it to be set. Quote
Contributing Member 24VOLTS Posted January 29, 2016 Contributing Member Report Posted January 29, 2016 I have had the same issue. I chucked my dies up in the drill press and bring the top lip down just a little and then polish everything. It helped me. Quote
Contributing Member 24VOLTS Posted January 29, 2016 Contributing Member Report Posted January 29, 2016 I am using Osborne snaps. I think the well in the die is too deep. Quote
Members buzzardbait Posted February 1, 2016 Members Report Posted February 1, 2016 It looks like too much force. My snapsetter has a stop adjusting screw. when I put the dies in, I take a scrap piece of the same leather and adjust the stop until the top die just barely imprints the leather without a snap in place. I haven't had any problem with poorly set snaps or marking on my leather since I started doing this. My setter is from Kamsnaps It cost less than $90.00 and has worked great for years. Quote
Members biglew Posted February 2, 2016 Members Report Posted February 2, 2016 just to let you know the gold star press doesn't work with tandy snaps Quote
