Gold Star Snap Press - Am I Doing Something Wrong?

Recommended Posts

I just got my press but only used it to set a snap to see how it worked so I don't know how much help I can be. The instructions were a little confusing (at least to me) on the which top half of the die to use. Maybe the wrong top half of the die was used.

Maybe post the pictures of the press with the die set installed? Without seeing it's really hard to tell.

It may be the case of just using too much force. The snaps do not need too much of it to be set.

I have had the same issue. I chucked my dies up in the drill press and bring the top lip down just a little and then polish everything. It helped me.

I am using Osborne snaps. I think the well in the die is too deep.

It looks like too much force. My snapsetter has a stop adjusting screw. when I put the dies in, I take a scrap piece of the same leather and adjust the stop until the top die just barely imprints the leather without a snap in place.

I haven't had any problem with poorly set snaps or marking on my leather since I started doing this. My setter is from Kamsnaps It cost less than $90.00 and has worked great for years.
