Members Gibbsleatherworks Posted December 14, 2008 Members Report Posted December 14, 2008 Its not possible to use Tandys new water based antiques on motorcycle leather because it will end up on your butt. (Why will it stick to denim but not leather????) Anyway, is there anywhere that the oil based antiques can still be found? Or even better, is there another option to get the antiquing effect on tooled leather, that would be permanently water proof? Thanks in advance. Quote
Members bustedlifter Posted December 16, 2008 Members Report Posted December 16, 2008 I use Fiebings antique in the jar. I put a good coat of Aussie conditioner over it and it works quite well. Quote
Members Gibbsleatherworks Posted December 16, 2008 Author Members Report Posted December 16, 2008 Thanks for the response. Ive been planning on trying Fiebings, I just expected to get the same results. Ive been sealing with Pecards which helped alot. Quote

David Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 If you want to keep the color on the leather and not on your jeans. Rub a coat of neet lac into the seat after you are all finished. One coat rubbed in will not turn glossy and will keep your dye where it belongs. Black is the worst for rubbing off and it doesn't matter if it is water based or oil based or spirit based. It all rubs off. Neet Lac is the only thing I've found to keep the color on the leather. By the way, the term for dye rubbing off is crocking. Dave Theobald Quote

Members Freddo Posted December 19, 2008 Members Report Posted December 19, 2008 Tandy stopped carrying neet lac didn't they? Does anyone else carry it? Quote
Members BradB Posted December 19, 2008 Members Report Posted December 19, 2008 I had been told that the lacquer finishes had been discontinued. I can not find NeatLac in Portland Oregon.... :-( Quote
