Members Shotgunwilly1117 Posted February 17, 2016 Members Report Posted February 17, 2016 Excuse my ignorance but I picked up a singer 29k62 with the stand that has the foot petal. I was told by a guy who has similar machines that all it needs is a needle and a new belt. What would the value of this be if I were to sell it as is? Quote
Members Constabulary Posted February 17, 2016 Members Report Posted February 17, 2016 Between $1 and $800 - prices depends on where you live (USA, GB, Germany, Australia, Fiji, Iceland...), the condition, the accessories, the stitch length.... Quote
Members Shotgunwilly1117 Posted February 17, 2016 Author Members Report Posted February 17, 2016 I live in the US and I wouldn't even know how to describe the condition or accessories Quote
Members Constabulary Posted February 18, 2016 Members Report Posted February 18, 2016 Post some good clear pictures - maybe someone can help you or will even send you an offer if he lives in your era (tell people where you live). On my end patchers are rather cheap when you buy the "as found" but also depends on the above mentioned. Since you don´t know the machine and seems you also cannot operate it don´t expect a high price. People like to know what they are buying. A fully working machine will bring you much more than a "I know nothing of it" machine. It´s always the same - if you want good money you have to give good information - no good information - no good money. But lots of folks don´t understand it and think a machines sells because it is the machine it is. Like "I have googled it and they sell for $600 elsewhere". Thats wrong! Best way to get the most $$$ for it is: clean it adjust it, look for a manual and parts list, buy some needles and thread, test sew it, include some sewing samples, take a lot of good detailed pictures and maybe a video showing the machine how it sews it and you will get more for it than for "I know nothing of it" machine. Members dikman Posted February 18, 2016 Members Report Posted February 18, 2016 I was told by a guy who has similar machines that all it needs is a needle and a new belt. And he would know how? Unless he's tried it there's no way he could know what condition it's in. There's an awful lot of things that can go wrong with these machines - rusted up inside, broken bits, incorrectly adjusted parts, badly worn parts just to name a few. I recently picked up a machine (free) that turned ok by hand, and looked good, but the shuttle was so badly worn that there was no way it was going to sew. I only found this out by dismantling it once I got it home (glad I didn't actually pay anything for it). If you can't even tell buyers that it sews ok then it's essentially good for spares only, or possibly refurbishing, either of which is the low end of the market. Quote
Members Shotgunwilly1117 Posted February 18, 2016 Author Members Report Posted February 18, 2016 It was his and he has them in his shops but was closing a shop and I was helping him move so he gave it to me and told me that's all it needs. I don't know the first think about operating one but I can figure it out and find a needle and belt and test it out. I apologize for my ignorance. Quote
Members Constabulary Posted February 18, 2016 Members Report Posted February 18, 2016 (edited) The treadle stand does not belong to this machine, it belongs to a short arm machine like a 29K4 or the like and it is not complete as you probably have noticed. So if I were you I´d sell the machine w/o the stand because the two parts together look quite stupid - somehow. Unfortunately it is not setup for attaching a front wheel so that's a big minus in my opinion. Has is a hand wheel on the right side? Please post larger pictures of the front and back of the machine head (full view w/o stand). Edited February 18, 2016 by Constabulary Quote
Members dikman Posted February 19, 2016 Members Report Posted February 19, 2016 No need to apologize, industrial machines are a pretty specialized field and I wouldn't expect anyone to know much about them if they don't use them. (That was me a few months ago, btw). Find a manual for it and try and understand how it works and how to adjust it. That way you may be able to sell it as a working machine. Quote
