That's the advantage of NOT using patterns --- you fit the mold, not the pattern. Other side of the coin, the advantage of using the pattern, when somebody else sees it and wants one like it, no problem.

Pretty much. But I've gotten pretty good and getting them close to the same cant wise. FWIW, my most popular holsters I have the back cut to the shape I want. Glue on the front, trim front to back. Nearly identical holsters.

Advantage me, I can turn out a holster for a gun with no, close to, or minimal pattern.

Advantage pattern, makes some steps quicker and easier. Repeatability.

Yep, Robert (mecopocketholsters.com) made holsters for YEARS before using a pattern to make one!

A friend a work bought one of these and wanted a pancake cross draw for it. I informed him I would need the firearm to make the holster. He told me that he had spent $2700 + tax for his and that he would need to stay with it. I told him that was fine. When he asked me for a price I told him that it would be $270 for the holster. He looked me square in the eye and said "You know I can get a Uncle Mikes holster for like 20 bucks" I responded and said " That is true but this is a custom holster and i will have several hours into making it" long story short he told me that was way too much and that he was just going to buy a cheaper holster to carry it around. A month later he told me that he bought a holster from MerNickle for 350 plus tax.

Grumble Grumble .. freagin sig has to take a perfectly fine 1911 and make some statement! :)

So I have someone that wants to buy one of my holsters but it turns out he has a Sig Nightmare commander size which has these really high squared off shoulders on the slide. I think the leather should stretch to accommodate it but Its a pretty dramatic change. So I have 2 questions

Has anyone tried successfully to get a sig nightmare gun in a holster built around a colt 1911 or rocky 1911?

Is there a mold for the sig, can I use the 4.2 sig nitro mold?

Thanks everyone

Boriqua, . . . one of the fun things you can do with blue guns is customize em. I do it often.

Add several layers of masking tape here or there to make the slide wider, . . . augment with a layer or two of manila envelope, . . . be surprized what you can conjure up.

I had a guy wanted a glock (ugh !!) holster and the model he had was a bit longer than the only one I had at the time. About 20 minutes after I found out what the difference in the two was, . . . I had a wooden extension for my glock (ugh !!) blue gun, . . . that when taped on, . . . carefully modeled the one he wanted.

Made him the holster, . . . he's been a happy camper ever since (guess about as happy as you can be if you own a glock, . . . y'know).

Anyway, . . . go for it. Nothing ventured, . . . nothing gained.

May God bless,

Dwight

Multi mold has a mold gun for the 4'' Sig 1911. It has a sight channel mold built into it and the trigger guard and the ejection port have been filled in due to them being made for the primary use of making kydex holsters.
