Members Csr111 Posted July 6, 2016 Members Report Posted July 6, 2016 My teflon coated glue pot with brush was left unused for over a year and is now stuck shut. Anyone have any ideas on how to "un-stuck" it? Thanks Quote
Troy I Posted July 6, 2016 Report Posted July 6, 2016 You could try acetone to loosen the glue, but use in well ventilated area. Quote
Members Sonydaze Posted July 6, 2016 Members Report Posted July 6, 2016 The brush is probably stuck in the hardened glue in the bottom. You can try solvents if you can get them inside? Putting a bit of Vaseline on threads and edges where lids meet is a good thing. Quote
Members Nuttish Posted July 8, 2016 Members Report Posted July 8, 2016 Put a rag soaked in xylene around the brush/lid. Once it's loose enough to wiggle, you can turn it to unscrew the brush handle from the brush tip. Depending on the glue, you can probably redissolve it with more xylene and then fish your brush tip out. Quote
Members Colt W Knight Posted July 8, 2016 Members Report Posted July 8, 2016 (edited) Strong solvents like acetone can melt plastics, so you may want to test it in a small area first. Being as this is a glue pot, it should handle it, but I have seen stranger things happen. Edited July 8, 2016 by Colt W Knight Quote
Contributing Member JLSleather Posted July 8, 2016 Contributing Member Report Posted July 8, 2016 (edited) That lid is held on with glue. Got a hot glue gun? Turn the pot over, BOP the edge with a rawhide mallet (or similar) and the entire lid will come off. Then just PEEL the dried glue out.. maybe a use a dowel or such. It will come out like set-up putty. I say use a dowel, because something metal (like a butter knife will mar the teflon, and it aint so 'non-stick' next time Once ya gotter cleared, hot glue the top back on, and go on about the leather .... Oh, yeah -- once you got the top back on.. a little glue thinner in the pot and the brush set in place, and the brush will fix itself pretty quick. Edited July 8, 2016 by JLSleather Quote
