Which glue should I try now?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I make watch leather straps and I've found that sometimes when I use minimal stitch the 2 pieces get unglue after a couple of weeks of use. I use Tear Mender. When that happens I apply loctite to fix the problem but I would like to find a glue that works from the beginning for this kind of use.

Any suggestion?

You can also try Renia top-fit (German brand)

A very useful topic:

I've been using Barge Cement for many years.

You have to get the one in the red can.

It also comes in small tubes, which might be better for your small work.

Yes ! Barge has a lot of different types now , about 6 different types. Red & Yellow, Original formula.

Use 2 coats. Let the first coat dry for about 15 minutes, then apply 2nd coat let it become tacky, about 10- 15 minutes

apply pressure.  Must make sure glue is ready to set. Once you press it together, it's not coming apart !

I use clamps. Also make sure you rough up parts to be glued. If you ever glue on the grain side, you must rough it up.

Hope I helped you. Let us know.

Barge and any benzine glue have toxic fumes.  Renia is incredibly strong and is non toxic, plus its flexible.  We have both in our shop.

I tried Masters and will get some more again, performed better than barge and  was easier to use. One layer and your done, two if you forget and let it totally dry. Its a little thicker than barge but wasnt an issue.

How is Renia compared to Tear mender?

Never heard of tear mender.  I will also say this about reina. Its a little gooier than barge once it dries.  Meaning you get some boogers on the edge, so go sparingly.

Nothing but good to say about Renia.  I used to use Barge, till I used Renia.  Get the Cologne de something kind. Awesome glue.  Masters used to be repackaged Renia, but not for a few years now.
