I have no objection to hand sewing holsters, but belts............ I admire those with the patience to do so, though. I sewed 2 belts this weekend. Hands and wrists are a bit sore.lol But since I don't have a machine ain't got much choice. Quote

I'm not sure my total construction time was on mine. I know the basket weave took several hours. Just the stitching was the 4-5 hours. I did the stamping on the belt blank first, then it sat for months before I glued the second layer on , stitched, dyed, punched holes, & finished. The second part of the process was about a week of working on it every so often. The stitching was a single marathon on a Saturday. Quote
Members Bigfoote Posted January 31, 2017 Members Report Posted January 31, 2017 I have stitched a lot, like the rest who have given good advice here. At 6 SPI I would go with 1.0 mil thread but I would toss those Tandy needles and get some John James needles, in my mind no comparison. I use size 1/0 for .8 and 1.0 thread, hope that helps. Quote

The second part of the process was about a week of working on it every so often. The stitching was a single marathon on a Saturday. Let's do the math... 1 day to dye and dry, 1 day to glue and dry. That leaves 3 days to edge, burnish, punch, and stitch. On an average day, I can get 2-3 hours in, before my shoulder starts screaming. So, I guess maybe 4-6 hours to stitch? That would include the time to re-thread the needles, find the needles after they have slipped off the thread, replace the needles after breaking the eye off, putting in another movie... all the things associated with hand sewing Quote
