VeeBee Report post Posted March 16, 2017 Hello All, I decided to join based on great tips i've been getting from this site but i've coming across a re- accuring problem as a Leatherworker specific on Leather bags and i use Chrome Tan Leather. Since it is very difficult to stamp on these types of leathers what will work best when it comes to imprinting my logo onto the leather? Will Hot Foil Stamp work on Chrome Leather? Arbor Press? Or Should i simply find another way to attach my logo onto the bag(s). Please Help!
bikermutt07 Report post Posted March 16, 2017 I can't speak from experience, but I believe heat is the way to go. A press will imprint it but from what I have gleaned here, it won't last. I know some people put their logo on a piece of veg tan and attach it to the bag as part of a closure, strap system, or even just a simple square. BlakeSmith Report post Posted March 16, 2017 I use chrome tanned leather and also make custom stamps from a hard plastic called Delrin that I use on every one of my products. I've had no issue embossing the leather, but I use a 50 ton hydraulic press.

Any experience with Hot Foil and what it does to Chrome Tan Leathers?
RockyAussie Report post Posted March 16, 2017 Hot foil or just blind stamping with the heat and a decent hot foil machine will work most of the time on chrome, but sometimes maybe consider a Veg badge stitched on as some leathers just won't behave almost whatever you do. Sonydaze Report post Posted March 17, 2017 A hot foil press press will emboss with or without the foil. To get a good imprint in chrome tan, heat is your friend. There are companies that can make your logo up in a magnesium die.

Any experience with Hot Foil and what it does to Chrome Tan Leathers? It depends on how soft your leather is, but I've been hot stamping leathers for a while now too. I use a Howard Personalizer and heat up the tray to 325 degrees and stamp first without the foil and a second time with. It turns out great most of the time. I do a similar process as well if I am concerned about the adhesion of the foil due to whatever finishing products may be on it. I do think though that 325 is a bit to high and if following with foil you would have to put the pressure down very light and the time very fast in order to not end up with a big blur. On stiff leathers maybe alright.See this link of the machine type mentioned-
