stitching chisel set

a recent purchase of these

quick review: are they worth the $20 for the set of 5 in 4mm? heck yes. Jake used them on the wallet I posted for him the tines make a great diamond shaped hole. that's the pro they are fairly well made.

now the con, they need a little "effort" to get out of the leather. in other words if they had a better polish they'd be spot on for $20 but for a set of 5 you can't do too bad good starter set if your pockets only have lint in em.

I have the same set and if you have some beeswax handy, stick the chisel points is the wax before you punch. Easier going in, easier coming out.

I a set just like them from Co link in 4mm. So far, they are still my favorite cheap ones.

Someone with your tools and skill should be able to spiff them up in short order.

I just purchased a set of these in two different sizes. They haven't arrive yet but they were so cheap  I thought....why not?  I got mine from this Ebay seller and they are dirt cheap.

The 3mm 4 piece set was $5.99. Glad to see they aren't crap!

I polished mine up with a fabric wheel on a dremel and some green polishing compound. Takes a little time, but they go in and out with no problem. Always use a little beeswax on them, that helps as well.

The Dremel is a good idea. I've never used mine enough to work it into my tooling mindset.

Well as you said I should be able to spiff them up a little bit here they are before.20170417_192140_resized.jpg.e032d73df1d16a2d045e119da70357d8.jpg and after shot. They go in slicker than pig poop on a rainy day and come out just the same.20170417_194029_resized.jpg.ddac74e251e9176f1dab7a08d5b0490e.jpg

Quite possibly the best $20 I have spent on leather tools to date!

Did you use the Dremel method. My wuta pricking irons finally came today, but I was about half lit when I got home.

Oh yeah great job, they look really slick.

Yup half hour or so and you turn some pretty mediocre chisels into awesome ones! I can pull my six tooth out of 2 layers of 4 oz with one finger holding the leather down! I used to use a block of wood and the old wiggle move. :)

I use a rubber mat that I purchased $5 it's only 1/4" thick but I split it and rubber cemented it together for a 1/2" thick chisel pad no need to wiggle wiggle any longer just buried the 10 tine in 12oz single layer and it slipped right out! I'm happy!

I hope the wuta irons looked better than these did! have you had the chance to use them?

Just a little test. They made nice looking slots. But I haven't gotten to sew anything yet.
