I have some exotic that I thought I would use for a couple of these card holder money clips, I hadn't done one that I liked so and I thought I would give it a go, there's 2 in regular veg tan and 2 in two different color exotics that I have.

ya I was having a hard time sewing in close to the clip bar and not hit it with the needle, I did hit it in one area and ruined a needle.

I sew first, then insert the clip

I did try another method today but would like to know If you sew them tight how do you get the rod in after the fact.  I noticed that in order for them to stay it has to be a tight stitch line.

I have a piece of steel rod made up to the same diameter with a pointed dome shape on the end to help push it through. I normally put in over night to help the leather to set in that shape.Sometimes a bit of powder is still necessary.

With veg tan, I case and form it with the clip or a similar diameter dowel inside. While the dowel is inside, I mark where my stitch line has to be for a snug fit, then I take the dowel out and stitch. Usually I have to put a little oil on the clip's rod to get it to slide into the finished product.

When I get back to them I need to change something in order for the stitch line to be better thanks for the idea.
