Members Bodean Posted May 18, 2017 Members Report Posted May 18, 2017 Tougher than I thought, as I had to make my own patterns. I did learn a bit, and will try again. This one will be mine. Quote
Members Rohn Posted May 18, 2017 Members Report Posted May 18, 2017 I like it. What kind of leather did you use? Did you line the inside with anything? Quote

I used 3-4 ounce veg tan. I put a suede band on the inside 54 minutes ago, nstarleather said: Looks good, it the crown 2-piece? I ask because of the seam. The hats I make have the seam in the back. Thank you. It is 2 piece. I was going for a Aussie bush style. The next will probably be one piece if I can get my pattern drawn right, LOL Quote

Members Grey Drakkon Posted May 18, 2017 Members Report Posted May 18, 2017 Hah, well I'm in the hand sewing camp myself. If you're planning on cranking them out then a machine may be called for, but I like the character hand sewing gives. Quote

I don't think there is any danger of that at the moment, but a machine sure would speed things up. It is a workout on the hand stitching though. LOL Besides i would have to figure out how to get head measurements to make a buyer one. 55 minutes ago, kiwican said: I like this Thank you very much. Quote
Members cjartist Posted May 18, 2017 Members Report Posted May 18, 2017 Well done. I did one about a year or so ago that doesn't look nearly as finished. I thought the idea of doing a two-ply brim or liner just sounded like too much work. Ha ha. It was just something I had been wanting to do for a while. Not sure i'll ever attempt another though Quote

Because of the way I made the seam on the inside, I thought it would be uncomfortable without a band. It was tougher because I had to hand punch all the holes in the suede as I went along with the stitching , but it was worth the time. Edited May 19, 2017 by Bodean Quote

Wow, thank you for the compliment. 5 hours ago, Chief Filipino said: Nicely done! Would you mind sharing how you went about getting your measurements? Please Thank you,. I found a how to online. I made my pattern off that onto posterboard. It was to small, so I had to redraw it and keep cutting out the inside of the brim pattern till it fit my head loosely. It still ended up being tight after everything was sewn together. So I had to wet it and stretch it to fit my head. I still hae some work to do on the measuring thing myself. I think it would be hard to make these for someone else by mail order. Relying on someone to measure their own head correctly would be chancy. Quote
Members Zandeosaddles Posted June 6, 2017 Members Report Posted June 6, 2017 Nice thread. I also wanted to do this so I did. Here is my first one about 2years later Quote
