Members sandyt Posted July 3, 2017 Members Report Posted July 3, 2017 Hi Matt, Yes, it has 3 heating blocks. Needle block (head), wax pot, and shuttle race ('cylinder arm'). Sandy. Quote
Members Matt S Posted July 3, 2017 Members Report Posted July 3, 2017 Of be great to see some details of your heater blocks Sandy, I understand they are even rarer than paraffin or gas jets. Do you use them? Quote
480volt Posted July 3, 2017 Report Posted July 3, 2017 Perfect, thanks for the photos Sandy. Ken Quote
Members sandyt Posted July 3, 2017 Members Report Posted July 3, 2017 No problem Ken. Matt S, I don't use them. I don't even use the pearson itseld often. Hardly actually. Never found the time to make it stitch consistantly. I have to buy a new bobin tension strip first. It works with a glued home made one, but not great. And I nead a needle guide. Martin's harness sells them. Someday when I have a bigger order, I will order everything at once. I am not in a hurry. It looks pretty cool in my living room as a dust collector. Underneath the race there is also a heating block. I can't take a picture of it without dismantling it. Sandy. Quote
Members T Moore Medicine Hat Saddlery Posted July 4, 2017 Author Members Report Posted July 4, 2017 Looks like my machine might be way off adjustment. The screw that adjusts the stitch length dosent meet up straight with the dial screw on the back side Quote
Members sandyt Posted July 4, 2017 Members Report Posted July 4, 2017 I wonder how that is possible. Do you have a picture? Sandy. Quote
Members Matt S Posted July 4, 2017 Members Report Posted July 4, 2017 Sandy thanks for posting the extra pics, it's interesting to see the old heaters as very few have survived. Mine used to have a paraffin shuttle heater but little remarks other than the shadows where it once sat and the old water box. Is the serial number of yours quite high? From the paint I would guess it's a relatively late one. Any clue as to whether the heaters have any sort of control like a thermostat? I can't see any! Quote
Members Greenwood Posted July 7, 2017 Members Report Posted July 7, 2017 You said in an earlier post the knob spins and no change to stitch length. Could it be that the bolt in the dial wheel has broken loose over the years and needs to be brazed. It could also be a weak stitch lever spring. Ensure that the movement of the stitch lever is smooth with no hang-ups. Adjusting should be easy on scrap leather disregard the stitch dial and sew 6spm when satisfied turn the dial to 6 then adjust the back bolt stop to meet the dial bolt and you got her done. My 6 like Leathersmyths sews at the dial setting. Beautiful Ole Machine Good luck Leo Quote
Members T Moore Medicine Hat Saddlery Posted July 8, 2017 Author Members Report Posted July 8, 2017 I'll double check this in the morning. Thanks Quote
