Wait, what?? You ALWAYS need to buy a new tool.

So much leather...so little time.

I recently bought the smaller circle tool from windfire designs and I am real happy with it.  Bit pricey but I suspect it will outlast me

I got that one too, from Windfire...I filed off the sharp edges because I use it on veg tanned leather, that has been cased, and don't need the sharp edges making imprints on my work. Just a heads up.

I saw the Windfire circle templates in this forum some time ago and they look really wel made, but oh they are pricey.  I see how you can draw concentric circles by moving up or down one size, but how does it work when you have to skip a size or two?  Nice feature is that you can probably cut leather using the template- can’t do that with the plastic model I bought.

I figured for under $3 the plastic model would be worth a try and it seems to work quite well.

Thats a great point. I havent used it on wet or cased leather yet but I can see that being smart to file the edge off.

Gary If you had a center line you  could do it by measurement.  I like that on the windfires there are lines centered on each circle to line them up.  Yes you could cut with them.  However for 3 bucks...yours is hard to beat too and I may have to find something like that  in the future.   I got tired of using jar lids, cans etc that was around the shop.....hence why I got the template.

One thing I noticed on mine there is a ridge in the middle both inside and out.   I am not sure if this is intentional or due to how they are made.  ITs not a problem really but if you used a standard graphite pencil it grooves it as you trace the circle.  Again not a biggie....but makes me curious   Does yours have that @alpha2

I would love to have the larger one too...but I am not ready to pony up for that one

Ross, that’s exactly the same reason I was happy to find a circle template - always looking for lids to use to draw circles!

Did I mention the occasional quarter too lol....i suspect we all have used what ever we had about

Yes, mine has the ridge, and it does put a groove in the pencil lead. I think they explained the reason for it on their web page, I did have a conversation with them about the sharp edges, they said the primary use of the template is for marking and cutting thin fabric for their kites, and they help hold the fabric in place while cutting. I guess we're kind of re-purposing them for our use.

I passed on the larger template too, way pricey.
